You'll be glad to hear that neoliberalisim is canceled. We're getting fascism now.

I've always thought it was badass to do a crime so infamous that the crime gets named after you. Think Charles Ponzi or Lorena Bobbit.

I'm confused, are these guns autonomous or are they "remote controlled". The article describes them as both. And why is the sex of the operator relevant?

But even if these were true robot killing machines, they seem to serve the same function as landmines (area denial) and they simply can't be more cruel than that technology.

It's wild to see mainstream journalists openly admitting that it doesn't matter what the Constitution says.

The concept of free will is way older than Christianity. Even the story of the Garden predates Christ, as does the book of Job which addresses free will directly. And the concept of a "clockwork" universe is quite out of date too. Many phenomena are probabilistic while some phenomena have no cause at all (big bang).

The Russian economy must be in a shambles if they're maintaining their oil fleet to the same standards as their Navy.

Wow when I was in High School, I'm pretty sure all the male students were just issued a copy of The Wall on cassette, album, CD, and VHS. Do they not have pot where you live?

He doesn't cycle till 2028, so this isn't tactical, it's strategic. Maybe Fetterman looks toward national office? Anyway, I hope he's making a mistake, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Appeasement is a famously poor strategy when dealing with bullies, that's 100%.

However, if you're referring to Nevil Chamberlain and the "peace in our time" deal with Hitler regarding Czechoslovakia, that's one of the most misunderstood "teachable moments" in history.

The central concept of "appeasing" Hitler relies on the false premise that England (or France, or Together) were in a position to do anything about German tanks rolling East. Chamberlain had received intelligence shortly before this meeting that they were absolutely not. England and France were helpless to protect Poland after all. And for months existed in an abortive "phony war" after the official deceleration.

Also you have to consider British public opinion about another war on the continent with Germany when most could still remember 1914-1918. So not only was Chamberlain helpless to prevent Hitler's invasion, his political mandate was to avoid war.

Chamberlain's reputation for being weak and bowing to Hitler's demands is undeserved. But worse, is often used as a rational for aggression or as a cudgel to dismiss diplomacy.

I'm convinced a major reason legacy media is so despised is because of the phony balcony "objectivity" standard. Holding journalists to an impossible standard just results in them lying to our faces day after day, for years.

This is especially obvious during Christmas because they all have to pretend to believe in Santa and it's exactly the same vibe.

This isn't because they think they'll loose, they're trying to appease the ogre before it demands a virgin worth way more than $15mil.

Dishwashers won't clean these gaskets if they're washed while installed. Oh, and those silicone straws can come out of the dishwasher nasty too.

How do pagers work? (self.asklemmy)

In recent events, I learned that some pagers only have receivers. How are discrete messages sent to these devices? How is it authenticated? How do they know the device got the message?

I have a recipe that calls for a dough to be autolysed (long bulk ferment while stretching and folding the dough). I'm fortunate to have access to a stand mixer. Is their any advantage to doing the autolyse? Should I just kneed it in the mixer to save time?
