I still use Reddit everyday. But they have lost my trust. I am now actively looking for other places and other networks.

Same here. My reddit account is now only for a select few communities that haven't made much of a foothold in federated space yet here on Lemmy. But my reddit interaction is down, and I'm honestly considering deleting my account there given the total shitshow going on.

I don't think it's a place I want to go back to, especially given how hostile the place can be overall. Arguing is engagement. Lemmy has been a breath of fresh air in terms of civil and engaging discussion. It's actually like what reddit used to be over a decade ago.

I have a few, honestly.

Gaming rig (for couch gaming):

  • Ryzen 5 5600x
  • Radeon RX 6700XT
  • 64 GB DDR4 3600
  • LG C1 55" OLED TV

Desktop PC (desk/LAN gaming and general use):

  • Ryzen 5 5600x
  • Nvidia GTX 1070 TI
  • 32 GB DDR4 3200
  • Sceptre 21:9 1440p ultrawide 35" (C355W-3440UN)

Other than those, I also tend to game a lot portably, and interchangeably play on a Nintendo 2DS XL, a Samsung Tab S7 FE (SD778g version), and more recently, a Powkiddy X55 handheld.

Might be worth checking out kbin.social, it's got a pretty nice UI.

I personally like how Lemmy looks, very barebones and text like reddit used to be years back. It's clean and readable. I'll admit though, I use the DarkReader browser plugin and it increases the contrast so the background is a darker charcoal color and separators/toggles/function buttons are all white or light gray.

Looks like this for me.

This is awesome, thanks for the tip. I'm not actually interested much in Mastodon (was never much of a Twitter user either), but I do have accounts on some instances and there are some good mobile and desktop apps for Mastodon and not so much right now for Lemmy.

1070 TI is a fantastic sleeper card. I had the MSI Armor one that was undercooled, I kept the heat plate but removed the shroud and cooler and installed an Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV. Been using it since just after it released, and even after upgrading my gaming rig to an RX 6700 XT, I swapped the 1070 TI into my desktop machine, still runs and games great.

I'm not down to subscribe ongoing (because I definitely will forget and think some fraud popped up), but I made a one time donation, and will likely make additional donations in the coming months and weeks. I'd love for this platform to thrive and have no qualms throwing up a few bucks for that here and there.

Thanks for that. Sorry, I'm still learning how this works.

My bad, I'm still learning how this whole thing works, have only been using Lemmy for the last day or two.

I'm starting to figure it out. It's a little confusing though, as when I subscribe to some communities that aren't on lemmy.world, they all show as "subscribe pending" for me. But it seems like I am subscribed? Or maybe just seeing it here on lemmy.world but not actually the content on that instance? I'm not really sure. Sorry if I'm adding any confusion here.

Not sure if reddit discussion is taboo here, but may want to reach out to the mods of /r/retrogaming, as they'd have prior experience with this sort of thing. I've reached out to the mods at /r/emulation to see if they'd move over here too and so far discussion seems positive.

(disclaimer, I used to moderate at both of those subreddits, have not been a mod since 2020 and don't personally have interest in doing so anymore).

Get the Pro 2 or the Ultimate if you go 8BitDo. The original Pro and Pro+ have really weird high input lag on Android.

I personally use an Xbox Series X controller if I want to game on bluetooth with my Android tablet, and otherwise I plug in my wired 8bitdo Ultimate via a USB-C-to-A dongle.

Just checked, it doesn't look like that sublemmy is federated with this one. I need to create yet another account to comment there.
