I’ve had luck on eBay. If you want to keep the price reasonable you can get the Japanese model (DSi LL) and useCFW and TwilightMenu to force English for games.

Last one I bought (LL) was $60, though unfortunately reeked off cigarette smoke. Hopefully you have a better time of it.

If you have Plex pass there’s a built in auto leveling setting, but it’s not available on the free version.

Alternately foobar2000 or other tools can apply replaygain but you’ll need a renderer that will actually use it. I use Asset UPnP.

Damn, this looks good. Shame I just bought the X55 back in May. No complaints, I'm really enjoying it and the 5.5" screen is sweet. But this may be worth considering at some point. I'll wait for Retro Game Corps' review on it. I've got a beefy tablet for the higher end emulation (Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube).

I'm still on reddit, but it seems like the only place I'm going now is /r/SBCgaming, as it's one of my interests that hasn't seen much traction here. I made a post suggesting people move to lemmy.world, but it was near unanimously panned, people weren't interested.

If and when I have anything interesting to post I'll do it here on lemmy and link it probably to the subreddit. The main thing I notice though is I spend much less time on reddit now. Since there's no reason to stay outside of a niche interest subreddit, I'm not browsing around different subreddits or hitting up the front page anymore. Which in hindsight is actually kind of nice, it no longer feels like an endless distraction.

I've already joined several communities relevant to my interests and have been posting and commenting in some (I'm still more of a lurker than an active user, I might only make a post and/or a few comments a day, or even a week, but I'm here). In case you might be interested:

Ghost Trick is fantastic.

Also, Liberation Maiden was extremely short, but pretty good.

The Rub Rabbits and Feel the Magic XY/XX ooze charm, they're great

Final Fantasy Theatrhythm is good for short bursts, it's kind of an infinite games

Code of Princess is a fairly short Beat'em up / RPG hybrid. I don't remember the full game length, but each stage was short and the game was somewhat short overall.

I picked up a few games on Steam, as well some stuff on Fanatical.

Steam:

  • Half-Life Complete
  • Octopath Traveler 2

Fanatical (also Steam keys, just a different site and sale):

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Doom Eternal
  • Crumble
  • Dark Devotion
  • Fallout
  • Fallout 2
  • Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut

It varies. I have my desktop PC and couch gaming PC setup and can emulate on those (and do sometimes play PS2 and PS3 games on the couch PC setup), but I mostly play retro stuff on portables.

My devices:

  • Powkiddy X55 - 8, 16, 32 bit games, GBA, and some ports like Sonic Mania, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Streets of Rage Remake, Doom, etc.

  • 2DS XL - NDS and 3DS

  • Samsung Tab S7 FE tablet with either Series X controller or wired 8bitdo Ultimate - Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, or if I want a bigger screen for some of the stuff I might play on the X55.

Just finished Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. Decided to jump back in time to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PC, the old 6th gen one).

Also playing Streets of Rage 4 and Dead Cells on my tablet, and in the middle of a run of Mega Man Battle Network on my Powkiddy X55.

I can’t edit the post because I’m already at the post limit for length, but I also found out that Fallout, Fallout 2, and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge work great.

I tried Doom 3 as well and it worked but performance was poor, it’s like 15 fps or something.

Couldn’t care less. Lemmy is already so much better than that cesspool. Reddit has been circling the drain for years.

I’m mostly using it because Memmy is somewhat broken for me as of the latest update. Though I think I sorted it out. Memmy wasn’t playing nice with a password change, I ended up needing to fully remove it from my phone and reinstall and now it’s working.
