I noticed that lemmy.world doesn't have the equivalent browse.lemmy.world page. Maybe that's something that the owner of feddit.de put in themselves?

Not quite sure, I'm only new here. The lemmy.ml list of federated instances does have feddit.de listed. And the feddit.de list of federated instances shows lemmy.ml also.

I assume that the premium edition will include the season pass for all the DLC that will come out. That comes to $167 in my local Australian dollars. Not cheap! I'm considering waiting for the GOTY edition. It'll include all the DLC, have some of the bugs worked out and will be cheaper.

I just chose Lemmy.world at random, pretty much. You can still view and participate in other servers.

That's a very specific sub-genre.

Same, I've been there since 2012. It's my go-to site for mostly everything and it's difficult to not click on that Reddit bookmark in my browser. This place is a bit empty right now but I'm hoping the blackout and people leaving Reddit will increase the traffic. I also joined Mastodon when Musk bought Twitter, so I'm all aboard the Federated train!

At least this place is easy to use if you are already familiar with Reddit, just have to adjust to using different servers instead of having everything in one central place.

Basically it works much like Reddit but there is no central server. It's a collection of servers belonging to individuals. Your account lives on one of these individual servers, but you can view and post on other servers as well. This has the benefit of having no central authority to dictate what everyone should do, but the downside of being more fractured. For example, if you are into video games, server A might have a gaming community, and server B might have their own separate gaming community. Nothing is stopping you from subscribing to both, though.

At the top you will have filters, Subscribed (the communities you are subbed to), Local (the communities on the server where your account is), and All (all communities across the servers that are federated with yours). I've been filtering by "All" and subscribing to the communities (subreddits) that I like, whether they are on my server or other servers. I've only been here since yesterday and I've joined ~25 communities so far.

Traffic is light at the moment and I've often filtered by "New" to see the newer posts. I plan on doing some posting today to contribute. Time will tell if the Reddit blackout and people quitting Reddit will increase the traffic. I imagine they would all call the same API, but I'm not a coder.

You have to create a new account on a new server then use the account migration tool. It’s not perfect; you’ll keep your followers but I think your posts won’t transfer over. Notes from the tool:

Before proceeding, please read these notes carefully:

  • This action will move all followers from the current account to the new account
  • Your current account’s profile will be updated with a redirect notice and be excluded from searches
  • No other data will be moved automatically
  • The new account must first be configured to back-reference this one
  • After moving there is a waiting period during which you will not be able to move again
  • Your current account will not be fully usable afterwards. However, you will have access to data export as well as re-activation.
