I've been a developer for awhile and you would be surprised how many companies can't get out of their own way to improve their products.
I think you're right. Imagining the instances as a bunch of a little reddits with their own subreddits that I can subscribe to and interact with is easier for me to wrap my head around.
It honestly feels more like leaving a bad relationship. I didn't realize how bad things had gotten until I left.
I agree that e-mail analogy doesn't make a lot of sense. Honestly just using it was the best way to learn. I'm already finding communities on other instances and commenting and engaging with them.
Glad you found us! I figured this is the best way to help. I deleted my reddit account awhile ago. Can you post a link to this on r/tampa? Maybe if we can get the word out this community might have a fighting chance.
Guess I need to find a new job :(
I’m also using the mobile site and it’s been pretty good so far. More than enough to browse around and interact.
Congrats you just said something!
I really hope not. Switching to a new platform has made me realize how much I wasn’t being social on a social media site. Because of all the toxicity I was only going to a few subreddits. I’ve already created my first community here in Lemmy and I’m commenting and engaging again.
Are you personally paying the server costs? How can we help subsidize?
So far I’m enjoying it! I like the stripped down design and I’m slowly figuring out the federation thing. Hopefully we can get more people from Reddit to get more content in the communities.
Edit: I've created a Tampa community for people from Tampa FL.
Is lemmy.world connected to kbin? I'm trying to interact with their instances but it doesn't seem to work. kbin.social appears to be one of the faster growing instances. It would be nice if we could interact with them.
