The clips of the hacks being installed/activated are pretty crazy:

Note that the title has been edited: we do NOT know if this was EAC yet. The article says it "may have been." EAC has claimed it wasn't them (but of course they're going to claim that). Instead, it could have been Apex's source engine. Or, it could have been two individually compromised machines from software completely unrelated to Apex; remember, these are two high-profile targets, after all. We just have to wait and see what the real cause was. Regardless, I wouldn't play Apex for at least the next day or two, just to be safe.

There isn't much sandboxing in Wine, but at least on linux, the AC is forced to run in userspace (instead of having root privileges). So it's not quite as invasive, but it still has access to everything your non-root account has access to. Which is still a lot. Probably not much better from a privacy perspective, but at least a little better from a security perspective.

I think the Deep Rock developers are owned by Embracer now, so I'm not sure if that counts as "indie" anymore, even if they're still a small (and previously somewhat home-grown) studio. But it's still a damn good game - ROCK AND STONE

  • Valve, when they actually make games... and when those games aren't Artifact or Dota Underlords...
  • id Software
  • Telltale Games
  • Frictional Games (Amnesia, SOMA)
  • Red Barrels (Outlast)
  • Playdead (INSIDE, LIMBO)
  • Landfall (Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, ROUNDS, Clustertruck, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, etc)
  • Daniel Mullins (Inscryption, Pony Island, The Hex)
  • David Szymanski (DUSK, Chop Goblins)
  • Mason Lindroth (Hylics)
  • Obsidian's older stuff
  • Rocksteady's older stuff
  • I have a love/hate relationship with FromSoft
  • Honorable mention to Nightdive: They do fantastic modern remasters of older games, like Quake 1 and 2, System Shock 2, Blood: Fresh Supply, etc.

All low settings looks pretty rough, but I'm also usually not super concerned about battery life. I personally use:

  • DX12
  • 103FOV
  • FSR 1.0 highest quality (2.0 looks horrible in DRG for some reason, and lower qualities didn't help a ton)
  • Anti-aliasing: TAA (looks best with FSR)
  • Texture Quality: Ultra (with CryoUtilities, zero performance hit compared to low, but idk about stock)
  • Anti-Aliasing Quality: Ultra (zero performance hit compared to low)
  • View Distance: Ultra (zero performance hit compared to low)
  • Shadow Quality: High (even though low will get you a 10% fps boost, I couldn't stand the zero shadows, and high only has a ~2% hit compared to medium)
  • Effects: High (lowest setting that keeps screen space refections, but this is a 10% fps hit compared to medium and low. Low and medium were identical FPS)
  • Post-Processing: Medium (or high if you use the Better Post Processing Reloaded mod, or if you're okay with chromatic abberation). Low will remove ambient occlusion, but has a 10% FPS boost
  • 11W TDP
  • V-sync'd 40-45hz (still tuning that in)

However, I use CryoUtilities and have a pretty hefty ~40mV undervolt (which can sometimes improve performance). Also note that I have the original LCD model, and apparently the LCD and OLED handle TDP settings pretty differently. So YMMV with these settings.

Awesome work. Out of curiosity, what engine did you use and how was your experience with it?

If you want a good laugh, check out The Looker. It's a short satire of the Witness, free on Steam

There are lots of recommendations for Herman Miller - just wanted to point out this is their CEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpYln4ZD0gk

I have a Herman Miller Aeron and kind of wish I had gotten SteelCase instead. Either a SteelCase Leap (any version), Gesture, or AMIA, they all seem nice.
