Here you can see all the different instances https://join-lemmy.org/instances i believe lemmy.world is currently the biggest. Remember litterally ANYONE can start an instance so the content can be questionable on some instances.

Lemmy.world is just 1 instance/server. Each instance/server is controlled by different people. Each instance/server can choose to(or not) group with other instances/servers for shared content all around, thats what people refer to as federated or federation.

Theres actually a handful of lesser known social media and video services that can run like this, including Mastadon and Peertube.

Ill gladly admit im wrong and probably start to think differently, if someone can show me just one example of where a portion of elected officials in a single party split votes on an issue. I just cant recall ever seeing that happen.

If an ad is intrusive or annoying to me i absolutely go out of my way to avoid that particular product being advertised

Elected officials from both parties almost always seem to all vote for the same as the rest of their party and even at times vote against the opposing party only because the opposing party is voting for it.

x264 with my home video media server i like knowing i can access all my content within any web browser anywhere. I'm also not worried about the extra bandwidth and hdd's are cheap, if bandwidth is a concern then x265 is the way to go.

I think most actual Linux users saw this as expanded access to the Linux environment, and easier ways for Windows users to dip their toes in. That was the feel i got from the general community at the time.
