Thai Con struggles (lemmy.world)

Getting Thai Cons while being as bad with plants as I am was such a huge mistake haha

The first one I got in late September - it was a young but well established plant with 3 leaves - one of them already decently fenestrated! I kept it in my very dark living room with a rather sad little grow light and it started rotting basically right away.

In desperation, I tried moving it to LECA and a much brighter spot, which seemingly did more damage as I had been a bit rough on the roots as I was cleaning the soil and rotten stuff off. By December, all roots had died off and the rot was starting to get to the stem :(

I was really worried about the stem getting affected, so I made the executive decision to split up the plant about a month ago. The smallest leaf had already died off earlier, so one leaf was left with the questionable stem while the top-cutting (that had been struggling to push a new leaf since November!!) got exactly one root node. All the root nodes left on the stem cutting had already grown and rotted away, so I wasn't sure whether that one could be saved.

I think it was the right call though! The top cutting is growing amazing new roots with no rot in sight (see header picture), while the stem cutting is unexpectedly pushing out some small new root buds!!

My second Thai Con - which I got in November and put into LECA at the same time as the other one - HAD been looking good until recently, but I'm guessing I was a bit too enthusiastic when building that self-watering pole and now it looks like overwatering is getting to it.

Or at least I'm hoping that the yellow leaves and the weird brown stuff on the back of the leaves is just overwatering and not some larger issue ;_;

I don't know why, but I loved the entire Androl and Pevara Arc! Not sure which chapters those were haha

In some sense, Powerwolf. The only concert I ever went to, I was really surprised to learn that apparently I hate concerts and will never go to one again.

Nono, it feeds me comfortably, I'm just really into saving up since I want to own an apartment one day and I'd definitely be annoyed at having to feed an extra person with no prior notice.

We'd get along fine, but feeding two people on one salary will definitely be annoying (my job has a non-competition clause where I can't pick up a second job in the same field), and getting enough adhd meds for the both of us will be impossible due to strict regulations here.

One of us still could bring value to the household by being the designated bangmaid though

Oh hey we're in the exact same boat! My parents are from Russia too and moved to Germany about 20 years ago. If the bureaucracy here wasn't that slow, they would have had citizenship by now and 100% both voted AfD.

We never had a decent relationship and I'm not concerned about preserving anything, so the goal is to just fully cut all contact at some point 🤷
Until then, I just act ignorant whenever they bring up politics (like literally pretending to not know who Trump is, because "what, why would I pay attention to niche american politics, they're literally an ocean away??").
Works pretty well, sometimes it even does make them retrospect about why they would care so much about seemingly random topics (because Russian propaganda channels train them to react to specific buzzwords).
Ultimately, I don't think they would ever change into better people and any energy put into changing their minds would be better used somewhere else.

Yup, it's best to avoid Californian Almonds. Luckily there are brands like Alpro who commit to sourcing their Almonds from Spain and Italy instead

Based on their followup comments, it sadly seems to be terminal.

I've recently caught up on About Oliver's second season of Minecraft streams. He's an astrophysicist who never played Minecraft before 2022 and documented his entire blind playthrough. No reading chat, no googling etc. He only knew that he could get to credits somehow, but didn't even know how.

I highly recommend the entire playthrough, but there is a 6 hour Compilation of season 1 if you want to catch up to current day. Season 2 is about 40 episodes in, with about 4-5h per episode.

Hat wer ne Idee warum Bitburger da extra Vitamine mit reinwerfen würde? Das alkoholfreie Naturradler von Gösser hat z.B. keine, und schmeckt soweit ich mich erinnere identisch?

Revy just finished shedding yesterday, so she hasn't been out of her house in about two weeks. So when I opened the door for her today, she was zooming out with full speed, parkouring down her shelf very precariously.

I set up her little baby jail so that she could explore on the floor for a bit (I don't allow her to go on the actual floor so that she can't scoot away into some crevice or behind furniture)

She was all over the play pen for like an hour, but I had to wrap up and get ready for bed. She wasn't having that at all and kept booping me to get out of the way and let her climb back down 🥹

Now that she's wrangled back in, she's just sulking in her hide :(

Heyhey!

My fiance has been struggling with lack of space in his current email, plus his current provider (web.de) doesn't have the most professional name, which is bothering him because he's currently applying for jobs.

So I was looking to get him a nice clean email for Valentine's, that has a simple name and enough space for a while.

Problem is - I'm kinda dumb and have very little idea of how web hosting and email work (despite working as a Software Engineer...). So I could use some input on what steps I should be taking to get what I'm looking for while avoiding the pitfalls and hidden costs that some service providers have.

So far, I've found a nice {hisLastname}.cc domain on namecheap for 50€/10 years. Namecheap also offers a basic email service for 14€ per year, altough I'm not sure whether 5GB is enough space. The next higher email would be 40€ per year for 30GB of space. That seems more like what I'd be looking for, but also seems a bit expensive?

Does anyone have tips on where else I might want to look? How expensive would it be to just run my own email server? Getting a little homeserver rack has been a goal in our hosehold anyways, we just haven't had the time to look into what exactly to get.

What would I do once the domain (and maybe email service) is bought? Like, what does the migration from existing services look like? Would I have to set up specific software anywhere just to access the mails?

Edit: Thank you everyone, I got it figured out! I went ahead and bought the domain at Namecheap, but didn't buy their email service. I set the email up with a trial account on Purelymail instead, if that works without too many downtimes I'll be going ahead and getting their 10$/year plan - seems like the value on that is just too good :o

It's my turn to bring cake to work tomorrow, I found this recipe .
I added some instant coffee but my jar slipped and I probably added too much... now I'm contemplating whether the buttercream might cover it up or whether I'm just baking a second cake and freezing this one for myself

edit: Yeah, I definitely fucked up with the instant coffee haha
Still edible (especially with the buttercream, it's still a 6/10 cake), but I don't want to bring it to other people. Made a new one instead, which this one I actually took the time to sift the baking powder and instant coffee so that it doesn't stay in random bitter chunks

It's balsamic-marinated chickpea seitan, with some pesto and some more balsamico on top. Tasted nice (texture was like mozzarella!) but it does look a bit sad haha
