“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.” ― Robert Jastrow, God and the Astronomers

Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Rom 8:1 THERE is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

That is sound advice! No arguments here!

Atheists promoting Bible reading, this is the best idea I've heard in a very long time! I really hope this is a thing and not just trolling. You gotta wonder though, what is someone who calls themselves a "Christian" but has never read the Bible? And if someone would do that, what does it mean when they call themselves something else?

Knowing all possibilities and making the choice for someone are two different things. Satan made his choice, he was free to not make that choice, just as we are free to not make his choice. Is freedom of choice (free will), and the sweet love experienced by those who make good choices, important enough to deal with the ones that make bad choices? It is clear that God thinks so. The most important and best choice you can make in this life, that God allowed you to have, is to chose God. If even one person made that choice, it would all be worth it to God (that's real love). Praise God that millions have made that choice, sadly billions more chose the evil, self serving, and loveless way as that wicked one did.

Has your stomach ever been so full that you were miserable? If so, you know that, at that moment, it is easy to push away even your most favorite food in disgust; but when hungry, your tongue can find even the blandest food exploding with delectable flavor.

So it is with Scripture, which when you think yourself full of understanding or a good person, you easily find Scripture a chore to read; but, if you confess your sin before God, maintaining a hunger for righteousness, even the most difficult morsel of God's Word will explode in your mind with new understanding and wisdom in your heart.

All Sin

1 John 2:2 (KJV) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

This short verse gives us a lot to consider. Jesus Christ did not die for some sinners. Or for some sins, but not die for others. Jesus Christ died as a shed-blood sacrifice for all sin. That implication is problematic when wrapping our minds around it. Yes, it is difficult to understand that God sent His Only Son to die for the bank robber as well as the hard-working bank teller. Or the victim who gets their purse stolen, or the thief who runs away into the night.

Indeed, our thinking cannot override God’s goodness. If it could, we might be inclined to dish out the salvation message to some, but not all, folks. Our finite thinking allows for differences in people and degrees of sin, with some seen as big sins and others (ours) as minor sins. Yes, it is hard to point the finger at ourselves, but it is easy to wag our finger toward another’s sin.

Let this vital message seep into your mind and soul: God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for all sin, past, present, and future. God does not discriminate among sinners but wants to be the Savior of all humanity.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Being upset that God allows suffering and at the same time are upset that God doesn't give wicked men God like power while at the same time restricting their choices to only be good choices? This doesn't make a lick of sense. God is logical, just and loving; this combination does not allow for illogical conditions, such as preserving free will, while limiting choices to good ones.

Something to think about, if God is real and protects your free will above all else, would not His enemy want to convince you that free will is an illusion?

The affliction described in the post is the very comment you made and what else worse people do to God and His people, and as you probably know, it gets MUCH, MUCH WORSE. God knew there was no way to avoid this persecution of His children while still protecting everyone's free will. So He turned it into an ultimate good for the faithful.

Romans 5:1 THEREFORE being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Rom 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Hebrews 11:1 NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

You're right, Christianity is the story of God's love, but we do know what is right and wrong because of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, that is why we are held accountable. In fact, the word conscience means "with knowledge." Faith, on the other hand, is what allows us to be forgiven, because unlike the angels, no man has seen God. It pleases God for us to have faith, because it allows Him to be able to justly forgive our sin.

Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

You're also right that what Peterson and Musk call "cultural christian" is a total misunderstanding of what Christianity is. They want all the benefit and none responsibility.

Doug reacts to Jordan Peterson talking to Elon Musk on religion and how Christianity is a good set of principles to build a society on. But what they don't know is that it's not just principles.

Shayne is still on his journey to find a Biblical personal relationship with God, unfortunately still relying on men and his own works for salvation, but leaving satanism and knowing God is real is a BIG deal, praise God for that!

Despite Suffering

1 Thessalonians 1:6 (KJV) And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

Isn’t it wonderful that the salvation of a soul is not limited by circumstances, afflictions, and suffering? God can swoop in and change the spiritual condition of a soul from standing in opposition to Him to standing in spiritual agreement with Him. It is often true that a meeting with God comes in the most challenging times, not during fun, rest, and relaxation. Each person has a limit of what they can try to handle apart from God and has a different level for falling apart. This is why this verse speaks about much affliction, as typically, a person must come to the end of themselves before they can meet God.

Yes, despite the pain each child of God faces when they try to do things on their own, once they recognize God, seeing Him for the first time, all other things at work in their life dim in comparison to Him and the truth of His Word. Think of Saul actively searching out followers of God and seeking their harm and imprisonment instead of identifying the value God places on each person. Then, one day, God stops Paul on the road and causes him to drop to the ground upon meeting Him personally. God does not make his life easy once he knows the truth; instead, he changes his name to Paul and is with him through a myriad of troubling situations and even times of danger and near-death experiences as Paul chooses to live for God.

Just the same, each person experiences much affliction in their journey but has the joy of the Lord at work despite the hardships and trials they face as they walk with God and sojourn on this wicked earth for a time.

In one paragraph:

  • the real priesthood
  • consecration of priesthood of the believers
  • no more sacrifice for sin (like mass)
  • our sacrifice by a new living way
  • full assurance of salvation at all times (no changing "state of grace")
  • good works being good but not saving (our reasonable service)
  • going to church (and WHY)
  • willful sinning can have no further sacrifice (or payment like the selling of indulgences or mass or penitence)

Hebrews 10

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

The big bang is a secular story of origins that has fooled many people. We know from Scripture that such a story is false, and there have always been scientific problems with the big bang. These latest JWST observations not only refute the big bang but also provide a biblically compatible alternative that makes testable predictions! This discovery was made possible by all of you who support the Biblical Science Institute in prayer and finances. Thank you!

Fear of God (self.believers)

Fear of God

Exodus 20:18-21 (KJV) And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

This scripture poignantly pictures the fear of these ancient people. We can understand the thunder and lightning as we experience thunderstorms, which must be similar today. The noise and light from storms can be a frightening experience, especially when put together with a smoking mountain where Moses went to meet with God. These ancient people had front-row seats to watch as Moses climbed this mountain and disappeared in the thick darkness. They were not familiar with this kind of atmosphere and events, like the heavenly playing of the trumpet, and they struggled to maintain a sense of calmness amidst these spectacular events.

Though Moses tries to reassure the people not to be afraid as he meets with God, many people are beside themselves with fear. They are especially fearful of a holy God, not knowing what He will say or do. God speaks with Moses, giving him the Ten Commandments as the people stand below, waiting for Moses to return.
