I am not super knowledgeable about this side of thing - but it seems like the teams' argument is that the Flyers signed DeAngelo a year ago and not the Canes, so this clause technically shouldn't apply. Letter of the law vs the spirit of it.
We'll see what the league says. I would imagine that if the trade is put on hold, plans would change after the free agent market opens, and this doesn't end up happening.

I don't feel great about this. 50% retained is a great price - but TDAs performance especially in the playoffs wasnt great. We would also have too many right handed defensemen, and one defender would have to play on their off side.
At this point i wouldn't expect Brindamour to enter the HHOF until he retires from coaching. He is a lock right now but i would assume they're waiting for any other achievements during his coaching tenure... (Wink wink)
