It's so frustrating. But good on you for recognizing the signs early on, most of us don't even know what the heck is going on, except that we might have some serious disease and/or are dying. Even later in age, doctors still don't take us seriously! It's like we're doddering old fools now.

exactly, I was super excited to see that science is digging deeper into estrogen's effects. We are seeing more proof that estrogen is necessary for so many of our bodily systems and for those of us in menopause, the proof is already there!

Yup hormones are likely the culprit and will settle down, but probably a good idea to see a derma too if they are persistent or get worse.

Reverse puberty indeed!

Excellent article. This especially...

Mainstream wellness was, to lean further into cliches, a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. I was actively pursuing better mental and physical health, a key piece of a wellness journey, but I wasn’t taking the time to establish what felt good to me. I was trying to fit into the trendiness of wellness, and I desperately wanted the freedom it proclaimed I could have if I bought enough stuff. Nowadays, I define wellness as, “Doing what feels good and aligns with what I believe I need in this moment.”

Menopause affects Black women differently as well..earlier, more hot flashes, and we need to bring awareness to this too.

I've heard very positive things about testosterone especially that it helps with muscle loss, fatigue and is very energizing, but there's also very little information on appropriate dosing for women. Too much can result in other unwanted symptoms (enlarged clitoris, deepening voice, etc, so you may have to start off slowly and ease into it.

As for MHT/HRT expense, it's promising to see some places provide free birth control (hormonal IUDs, etc) but MHT specifically for menopause probably won't happen. But the demographic is shifting...by 2030, it's estimated that 1.2 BILLION women will be in menopause, so maybe the medical professional will start taking us seriously!

Let us know how it goes with your T!

Wow, just wow...he should have at least stepped off to the side so the women were front and center. jeesh!

gahh, I don't know why doctors think that 41 is too early!

We often come to figure out we're in perimenopause by our symptoms, and then having those symptoms ruled out as being due to something else. So for many of us, we come to that conclusion in hindsight. It's really difficult to pinpoint and actual start date, because the start could be something like random aches and pains, or a period that was a few days late or early...nothing significant. Then over time, we start to connect the dots.

So to answer your question...

but how does anyone really now?

We don't.

Does it matter? Not really. The best thing you can do right now is start tracking symptoms and look for patterns. If the symptom is new and/or really unusual for you, then get it checked out by a doctor because some symptoms mimic other things (like thyroid, low iron, magnesium deficiency, arthritis, etc.)

haha lemmynade...love it. The latest Jerboa update requires your local lemmy instance to be running version 0.18+. Lemmy.world has not yet updated to version 0.18 as they are waiting for captcha fixes to resolve spam bot concerns. It's being worked on though!

The new FDA-approved drug Fezolineant (Veozah) is for hot flashes only. It doesn't help with all the other symptoms of menopause, but it's a start!

We're starting the menopause convo over here (from reddit) at [email protected]. All are welcome! I'll be bringing over our comprehensive wiki too which should help those who start the menopause transition (and have no idea what's going on) and for those seeking ongoing support.
