I would call it 1.5 times. In the 90s, I worked for a company that gave out $50 gift cards to a local grocery store for the holidays. I was young and still lived with my parents, so I used it to buy $50 worth of beer and fish (orange roughy). Went over to my friend’s house and we drank copious amounts of beer and consumed way too much beer battered roughy. Was standing outside the next morning having a smoke and trusted a fart. That was the last time I trusted a fart with a hangover.

Next time was about 25 years later, stomach gurgling during the last 20 minutes of a 2 hour commute, and well past the last public restroom. Tried to make it home, farting as I could to release whatever pressure I could. About 5 minutes from home, last fart released about 2 tablespoons of poop into my underpants. I phoned my wife to have the door open and make sure she wasn’t in the nearest bathroom. lol.

Yes, good point. I try not to get too hung up on words. But, when speaking to others, you point out a more productive way to word it. Thanks!

Same with Egypt, one place that I was happy to leave the driving to someone else. The amount and nuance of honks, especially on 6+ lane highways, often lacking any distinguishing lane markings, was impressive.

That the solutions that benefit all beings are always the best. Even if they require more effort. Also, that there are never just two solutions to any problem. The human experience is not binary, there are infinitely many solutions to all problems.

Yep. I’m almost 50 and have tried my best to help those around me see a better way. I’ve always voted. I did my part, but half the country still wants this shit. So, my wife and I are retiring early, peacing out, and letting ya’ll figure it out for yourselves. Good luck!

There’s plenty we can do about it. For instance, my wife and I just put an offer on a house in Europe and will be leaving ASAP.

Precisely. Excellent points!

When I ended up at Reddit 16 years ago after Digg, I don’t recall it being a huge community immediately. I think it helped that there weren’t subreddits yet. So, probably seemed like more people. I think it took a couple of years for the transition to hit critical mass.

They are afraid. Afraid of making decisions. Afraid they can’t control themselves. Afraid of people that are different. Afraid to express their true selves….

Equal parts addiction, fun, and frustration!
