It's $2350 to renounce, not $10k.

Yeah you didn't remember correctly at all. The fee to renounce citizenship is ~$2300 for everyone. For the IRS piece, you file a final tax return the year you renounce citizenship, and they check to see if you've been compliant and paid everything you owe for the previous 5 years, but the exit tax only kicks in if you're worth over $2 million, paid an average of a shitload of taxes (like more than twice the US median household income, so most people aren't going to qualify) over the previous 5 years, or don't certify that you're in compliance. IF you have a lot of money, they treat it as though you've sold everything you own and calculate what that would be worth, deduct $821,000 (as of last year), then tax the rest of the amount they calculated. Then you're done, unless you happen to have US income after that.

I've found that it really, really depends on how well the space is used. I lived in an apartment that was about 650sq ft with me, a chihuahua, and sometimes a retriever if I had a foster, but the layout was terrible and there was no storage, so it felt super cramped. Then my ex and I had a 700-ish sq ft place with 2 small dogs and it never felt claustrophobic. I've also toured tiny homes in the <350sq ft range that I'd pick over some apartments twice that size. The houses might be ok if they aren't just "take a regular floorplan and shrink all the rooms."

Yeaaah this whole thing went about as well as I expected. His public speaking is a shitshow at the best of times and this was definitely not the best of times for a senile, racist liar.

I'm not personally insulted. I just think it's incredibly shitty to treat dating like some kind of caste system where people "belong" at a certain level. I can see why you said you can't "score" anyone that you view as more attractive when you view things that way.

To anyone who considers a good personality attractive, I'm guessing dating you would be considered scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I'm going to Spain this fall (though not Barcelona) and I refuse to stay in airbnbs for that exact reason. Affordable housing is a problem in the US city I live in, and a huuuuge problem in all of the ski towns where everything is a tourist rental, and I don't want to contribute to that anywhere else. To be honest, I wouldn't blame a lot of these places if they started requiring tourist visas and seriously limiting the number of them.

Finally, a use case for AI that I can really get behind!

Kidding, please god no one deepfake that weirdo going to town on a totally innocent sofa. Fuckin nightmare fuel.

And I want whoever came up with this idea to spontaneously combust, but neither of us is going to get what we want.

[–] frickineh 2 points 6 months ago

No one wants that. Especially me.

I just ended up with what was on top of the pile, sadly.
