Yes, the numbers work when you intentionally leave some out.

Nah, just attach a few sharpies to it and let people vandalize it.

The definition of majority is a percentage over 50%.

49.8% is less than 50%

I'm sorry if this is a difficult concept to grasp.

The first one wasn't a real attempt. It was for the photo op

His decision getting overruled is the consequence.

No, you don't, but you also shouldn't just assume that a court ruling is going to be followed.

No, I saw a clip of him saying that vitamins were working working to treat measles on Fox News Tuesday.

He definitely wasn't saying that proper nutrition would help prevent getting sick.

I meant more that they might be trending towards democracy as the rest of the world trends towards fascism.

There's a difference between a hard proposition and something being within the realm of possibility. There are some things that we will never be able to know for certain, and this is one of those.

Hell, the cells that we all evolved from might not even be the first life to form on the planet.

It's not a subject like astronomy that better instruments will be able to improve our knowledge. This is a history question, not a scientific question, and you can't answer those questions if evidence doesn't exist.

Because you'd need microscopic physical evidence of something that happened nearly 4 billion years ago. And you'd need a fuck ton of it to definitively say that it was one super cell and not several separate instances of it.

And on a geological time scale, that evidence has almost certainly been erased.

We might be able to figure out the conditions that caused life to form, but to know whether it was a singular event or not requires an extremely high burden of proof.

Even with a time machine it would be extremely difficult to get that level of evidence. Even if we could recreate the conditions that led to life forming and create a cell out of a soup of amino acids, that still wouldn't answer the question.

One of the things humans do best is self preservation. When the consequences are things like losing your pension or maybe even jail time 99% of people aren't going to risk it.

At our core we're extremely self-centered animals, which is how things like capitalism and fascism can exist.

I mean, look at us. We're sitting here bitching on the internet instead of actually taking action. It would only take a handful of people to remedy this situation, but you'd have to find enough people willing to sacrifice literally everything.

I'm not shaming anyone for it, because I'm one of those who isn't going to take action to remedy the situation.

Our dryer crapped out a few months ago. It wasn't heating up, so I ordered a new heating element. It came with all new sensors, so I installed those too. One of the wire connectors was a bit loose, but I figured it would be fine.

Today, it stopped again, so I took off the back panel and sure enough, the wire was off. Plugged it back in, but no luck.

It's probably the thermal fuse, but I'm considering paying the $95 to have my home warranty send someone out to just fix it.

I'm only in the hole $25 so far, so maybe I'll replace everything again and see.

My suspicion is that there's something shorting out, though. It's definitely not a clogged vent, because I'm anal about clearing the trap after every cycle, and the vent pipe to the attic looks squeaky clean inside (and the vent tube from the dryer is clean too.

Edit: while typing this I realized that the loose wire probably caused the short, so I'll try to replace that sensor before calling someone. Thanks for being my rubber duckie.

Update: Problem solved. The loose wire was to the high temperature cut-off that sits in the coil housing. This caused the coil to get too hot and pop.
