Judging by the controversial comments on Reddit, I don't know if I want to engage with 50/50 up/downvotes for any significant amount of time. I think a 60/40 ratio might be a bit more palatable while still keeping it engaging. I'm not convinced an algorithm like this is the best course of action though.

These will be the good old days, as they say. Lemmy is poised for great things I'm sure, but I don't think it will never be like this again. I'll be happy to be proven wring, though.
That's why I mentioned Beehaw. Beehaw defederated for this reason.
I would hope that an instance/magazine that can't handle 20m users will have some sort of manual approval or other filter like Beehaw does. Beehaw defederated because they needed to breathe. Same with any other instance that begins to near its limit.
Same here, I'm so excited!
I'm more than happy to pay for a service I enjoy so I legitimately cannot wait to give him my money.
Here's to new beginnings in the Fediverse!
No, he did it under racing conditions. I didn't realize that Lando had done it under SC, so perhaps that's the difference.
Before finding Lemmy and kbin, if 3P App devs had announced that they were gonna make a Reddit competitor I would have been the first to jump
Interesting that Nando didn't get a penalty for doing it worse at Monaco last year
Absolutely! Sync was my favorite Reddit app. It's perfect. Take my money guys.
Looked at the source, can confirm only one right arm!
I'm legit excited about that lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think it's simply that they want to funnel all of their users to official channels. All of this "discussion" is a poorly veiled attempt at public justification. 30 days notice at the quoted price tag was very intentional. My hope is that Reddit seriously miscalculated the amount of damage this would cause. My suspicion is that /u/spez doesn't care and is willing to nuke the site for a one-time payout at maximum valuation.
