As an addendum, I got a notification from this above message, so it's not like we're bugged/blocked specifically from each others.
brucethemoose
This is the first time I've caught it without clearing my notifications. Is there any way to ping the devs about this? Maybe I'll look for an issue on Lemmy's git...
And I just realized how awesome it is that I can do that vs. Reddit or any other social media where tickets are a black hole.
Random aside, but I did not get a notification for your reply.
...Why? This happens a lot to me, and I thought it was a quirk with users on other Lemmy domains, but we're both on .world.
They did not get tricked, they chose to defend the status quo.
That being said much of the messaging about change did not get through because, well, they campaigned conventionally... keeping the status quo.
Trump will get blamed
Like they blamed him for his COVID-19 response?
If that didn't get through... honestly, I have no idea what would. Americans are just stuck in their feeds and divorced from reality now.
The meme is now this is not US policy.
Its like stating the world is not flat... when in fact NASA's official stance is that the world is, indeed, flat.
Everyone seems to be wringing hands about policy, but this is just another datapoint that propaganda won this election.
Wow.
He's basically threatening to "buy" them out of office with his billionare friend's money if they even question his picks.
What's the word I'm looking for... Nepotism? That doesn't seem to cover it.
This is such a common theme.
There are huge systemic problems which the "establishment" will demonstratably not address and Trump appears to be the answer to many voters... but him effectively addressing them is a wild fantasy.
100%
My mom went to an integrated school in the South, made friends... but sometimes overheard racist slurs and threats behind closed doors. Same story with family I have now, all pleasent in public, friends with some gay family members. But vehemently anti-vaccine and such behind closed doors... I have horrible stories I can't even repeat.
The duality is unreal.
A question is where that behind-doors comes from... a lot is from church. Church like you've never seen if you haven't been to the South.
I suspect Lemmy is going to dislike this, but local LLMs are great writing helpers.
When you're stuck on a sentence or a blank paragraph, get them to continue it, and rewrite it once it jogs your mind. If you're drafting ideas for characters or chapters, you can sanity check them or sometimes get ideas. They can reword and clean up your writing and improve it beyond what self experimentation can do... just keeping in mind that its like an idiot intern that tends to repeat itself and hallucinate.
And this is very different from an API model like ChatGPT because:
It won't refuse you.
It's formatted as a notebook you can continue at any arbitrary point, rather than a user/chatbot type format.
The writing isn't so dry, and it isn't filled with AI slop, especially with cutting edge sampling
All its knowledge is "internal," with no reaching out to the web or hidden prompting under your nose
Along with all the usual reasons, namely being free, self-hosted, more ethically trained, fast and efficient with long context thanks to caching, and has nothing to do with Sam Altman's nightmarish visions.
I'd recommend: https://huggingface.co/nbeerbower/Qwen2.5-Gutenberg-Doppel-32B
And once the story gets long: https://huggingface.co/EVA-UNIT-01/EVA-Qwen2.5-32B-v0.2
I'd recommend LanguageTool (with a local server and the browser extension) for locally hosted spelling/grammar/style as well.
I have ADD, which may be why I find this setup to be so therapeutic.
