Even attempting to draw a parallel like that between race/ethnicity and material wealth is a fairly questionable take to most rational people I'd say, or at least hope.

StatsCan uses an odd assortment of consumer goods to track inflation, which doesn't really reflect what pressures consumers are facing in Canada, I'd hazard a guess it's likely closer to 5%.

Housing and cost of living issues are very much still at the forefront of most Canadians' mind, barring the wealthy. The federal govt has done nothing of note on either issue, and I'd posit that they're likely to get hit pretty hard from both sides come election season. I'm personally aghast that our federal govt is willing to accept such a huge leap of unhoused Canadians while those in power sit on their hands.

Finally going to finish off TOTK, been taking my time with it, trying to find as much organically without looking anything up online. It's been ages since I've done that with a game, and it's really been worth it.

I think your comparison of your industry to the grocery industry likely isn't particularly akin, the grocery industry is much more...peculiar, or at least idiosyncratic than most, which is illustrated by the price of groceries not being in line with inflation.

To be fair, that's a pretty lambastable policy idea. In the least the fed govt could be providing funding incentives to municipalities for housing. Only if your poles are absolute inaction and poor policy is it a lose/lose situation.

I'm always surprised by the lack of imagination when folks bring up jurisdiction with respect to the housing crisis. The federal govt has an abundance of tools it can use to leverage pressure on the provinces. Even if we were to go by your rather narrow view of the issue, that the federal govt has yet to even begin to make noises about supply-side tweaks certainly suggests that it is simply not a priority for them, that they are comfortable with the seriously disturbing rise of unhoused Canadians and tent encampments in most major Canadian cities.

Personally, I'm pretty shocked that things have progressed to where we are now, and, despite being quite left of centre, this is such an issue in my area that voting Liberal again is simply unimaginable. I'm certainly not proud to be forced into considering voting blue (orange is a much likelier option but i cant say I'm particularly pleased with them having tied their cart to the govt's horse) but I simply can't reward a govt for such inaction on such a fundamental issue.
