In the USA. Would be great if the calculator also had a state version but it's ok if not.

I was awarded SSDI this year and am currently withdrawing money from my IRA to stay afloat.

I found the IRS forms - mainly in publication 915 - to calculate my tax burden, but because I also got a lump some from SSDI backpay this year it feels too complicated.

Basically I am trying to see if it makes sense from a tax perspective to withdraw more from my IRA before the end of the year or to wait til next year, and if so, how much more.

I am single and only ever do the standard deduction. I don't think I qualify for the earned income credit or any other credits that I'm aware of. I'm not in a state with the new IRS direct file program unfortunately.

So does anyone know of a basic calculator I can run different amounts through?

Thanks

I can't tell you how frustrating it is to not only be subjected to Fox ~~Entertainment~~ News by my family, but to be subjected to their social media segments every 5 minutes (not exaggerating).

It feels like when I find those ancient newspaper articles about how so-and-so moved in with her boyfriend before their wedding night or whatever.

Some things never change I guess.

Thanks, that stuff is fascinating. Gonna try doing some stuff with my therapist in my next session.

Thanks! I looked at Leafly and it's awesome. Appreciate the rec!

Ok thanks. I was looking at the convection vaping stuff which I think I'd be more comfortable with after learning about how sticky the oil can be on the lungs. But not sure if I'm understanding fully

Thanks. Thats good to know. I was reading that the oral stuff is good for maintenance and vape is better for like breakthrough pain. Does that match with what you know about it? I mean I'd rather not smoke or vape but if it works faster then I might need to at least at first.

I have been considering this since I'm in a legal state now...Do you know how much I would probably need to use? I'm trying to figure out a budget for it but the prices are for like 3.5g, 7g, etc., and I have no idea how long that would last for.

I fell a few months ago and landed on my head and spine (it was the corner of an object so I landed perfectly down the center from head to tailbone).

After a few weeks of head issues it all pretty much cleared up, until last week when I started having severe back pain to the point where I can't walk much. I feel like I'm going to pass out from the pain and my whole body feels like it's burning from the inside out.

There is nothing on imaging or labwork. Strong meds like oxy did not help much if at all. I am also overdo for arthritis medication so was fighting a ton of inflammation and pain already.

What can I do until a specialist sees me? I have to wait for insurance approval and then an appointment, which could take months since they are so busy.

This is great! Thank you

Thanks! I definitely can always use that reminder. That is something that will take a while to get used to. Luckily I usually notice it before I do anything important since it asks me what I'm talking about when I try to change the directory lol

Thanks. I finally am moving on from Vortex. Wish me luck! Change is hard.

[–] acetanilide 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks! I did it. Reluctantly. I had to sleep on it because I've only ever used Vortex for mods. But it is time to change to what actually works.

Yes, thank you for mentioning that. It turns out I was looking in the wrong place, so my save files are ok luckily! Steam says I have 333 hours in Stardew alone so I am very happy I did not lose them

Also kind of not wanting to change those hours lol

Thanks, I'll try this first

Hi!

I recently switched to Fedora 40 from Windows 10 and have finally started working on getting my games going. I have the KDE Plasma desktop version.

I have a lot of mods in Stardew, which I was able to get installed successfully using Vortex and Wine.

But, Stardew is not recognizing my save files, and Steam doesn't know that I'm playing.

Where should I start looking? It's definitely an issue with how I set up Vortex and Steam but I don't know how to fix it.

Vortex is set up through Wine and Steam is the Linux version (I think Proton is included on Steam under compatibility too). One of the instructions I found said to do symlinks from the .steam folder and place it into home/[user]/Games. A different one said to also make symlinks into home/[user]/Documents/Games. I never deleted the one under documents but Vortex is directed to the home/[user]/Games directory, which itself is linked to the apps folder under .steam

My save files are on my computer and not corrupted - they are in the .config folder. I tried linking the save files into the Vortex folder in .wine and that didn't work either. I also tried putting it in the relevant area under .steam folder but no dice. I never did symlinks before so I am not sure if that was a decent way to do it or not. I feel like I tried so many things I am not sure which folders I can remove now! Maybe in a different life I am more organized.

Stardew itself loads fine, if a little slow (my computer is a dinosaur) (still faster than when I had Windows!). I was able to select the mod settings from the home screen so it does recognize the mods, just not the save files.

I have hundreds of hours in Stardew so I would be grateful to be able to access my previous saves!

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Just switched from Windows a few months ago, so I'm used to using Vortex to manage my mods.

I've tried to find an alternative, but I think the ones I have found are only for certain games?

I think the only games I really use mods for are Stardew Valley and Dinkum (although I'm guessing my Dinkum mods are too old since they've updated it a lot).

I tried to do Vortex and I got it to install and open through Wine, but I can't seem to get it to find my games. I tried following various instructions I found, including the Steam Tinker(er?) Launch, but that didn't work either.

I created symlinks and was able to have Vortex/Wine view my game folders, but the .exe files do not show which I think is the issue.

The error that comes up just says that the .exe file was not found and that trying a top-level directory usually works. I have tried using the directory in the broad sense (like the whole drive) as well as narrowing it down to the exact folder that the .exe file is in, but no dice.

I did Steam through Linux, should I have done Steam through Wine also?

Or is there an alternative?

Thanks for reading!

I'll never understand why we pretend that things are this expensive.

USA, of course, because I can't imagine anywhere else in the world working this much harder and not at all smarter.

FYI, Medicare is our government insurance for older or disabled people and is paid for mainly with taxpayer dollars as well as "small" premiums by members.

Screenshot of an itemized bill. The first line is a charge for an initial outpatient appointment lasting longer than 60 minutes, and is for 679 USD. The second line is a payment from Medicare for 149.49 USD. There is a third line for a Medicare Adjustment of 491.38 USD. The total patient responsibility is listed at the bottom and is 38.13 USD.

A cropped picture of a bill. The top says "payment detail" and has two payments listed. The message below it says "we have not received a payment"

I guess the process is probably similar in other countries but included my country anyway since I don't know enough about this stuff. Feel free to respond even if you're in another country!

I received injuries from using a product that is available internationally, but not sure how many or where they have actually sold. Later this week an investigator is going to come to my home to take pictures of the product. I feel like they must be doing something else too? Maybe an interview? It seems weird to come all the way out here for some photographs. If it matters, the manufacturer itself is located in a different country.

Thanks for any information provided!

I can and do eat cheese. I just am tired of having it be a major part of everything I eat.

Tonight I made some angel hair pasta, which was delicious. Cheese was involved of course!

Edit 2024-10-27: still have not figured out how to prevent it other than not using the signatures option. Will continue trying (occasionally) and hopefully I remember to do another update.

Edit 2024-10-30: tried it again today to see if I could pinpoint the cause, but it allowed me to sign and save it! I didn't do anything so hopefully it was just a glitch originally.

I'm back again! I don't know if anyone is actually here but I'm going to ask my question anyway.

Last time, I was having issues running FoxIt Phantom PDF on Fedora. I got it going and have been able to create a few fillable PDFs since then. However, today I was trying to create a fillable from someone else's PDF and then fill it in (medical paperwork).

When I saved it, it saved the first few pages correctly but the rest of the pages was missing the original text and only showed what I added. Upon closing and reopening, it corrupted further into random letters on the first page with my added text remaining correct. I emailed it to myself and on my Android phone it showed a bunch of character boxes and nothing else.

Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?

Some additional info:

  • It seemed to get mad when I saved the document, applying 2 or 3 signatures to the PDF.
  • The PDF is 6 pages, all text except for the clinic logo at the top of each page.
  • I used a mix of text boxes, date fields, checkboxes, and highlighting when completing the paperwork. I also used the option of basically pasting the signatures under the fill & sign tab rather than doing a proper digital signature.
  • FoxIt Phantom PDF Version: 10.1.9.37808 (for Windows, installed using wine, see prior post for details)
  • Fedora Linux 40 using KDE Plasma Version 6.1.5
  • Laptop: HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bp1xx
  • Phone: Pixel 8 running Android 14
  • Emailed through Gmail in Firefox for Fedora version 131.0.
  • Downloaded to phone using the FairEmail app version 1.2236a. Opened with Xodo PDF reader version 9.4.5.

No~~body~~ kidney wants to work anymore

I do have government funded insurance so I will pay less than $200. Which I will only be able to afford if I pass Go.

Itemized hospital bill from the emergency room in the US. Listed are various services including IV, medications, and imaging. The costs range from $5 for an antinausea tablet to $500 for a pregnancy test and almost $7000 for a CT scan.

I get wrong numbers all the time in other languages. I only speak English fluently. The languages I studied previously were mainly in writing so speaking other languages is quite intimidating for me.

Top languages in my area: Spanish (mainly Mexico and Puerto Rico), Vietnamese, Korean, and Russian. I've also encountered Igbo, Yoruba, Arabic, and Haitian Creole.

Learning how to say something like "I only speak English" would be helpful as well.

I did find this website but I have no way of knowing how accurate it is:

https://www.indifferentlanguages.com/words/wrong_number

EDIT: Got it installed and activated, but it is not showing the full screen. Side note, the touchscreen isn't working, is that a thing in Fedora? I didn't think about that before switching from Windows.

EDIT 2: It looks like it just doesn't like me using the "maximize" button so all I had to do was drag the edges to make it larger. Not a true fix but it remembers how I wanted it when I reopen it so I'm not worried about it.

New to Fedora (and Linux in general).

Trying to install FoxIt Phantom PDF (a PDF editor). I have to use version 10.1.9 due to the license that I have (older version). I have the link directly from the company and have successfully downloaded the exe file. However, I cannot get it to install. The installer works for awhile but then the progress bar starts skipping around the screen. If I stop the install, it says there is a log file, but there is not. No files seem to be generated anywhere, aside from the exe file I downloaded. I have tried it using Bottles as well as the command line.

Here is my computer info:

Operating System: Fedora Linux 40

KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4

Can anyone help? I need this specific program because it has form field recognition, and I have not found that when looking for other options. Thanks!
