Yeah, same here. Once I realized that “federated instances” are just connected communities with similar subs all available from my local instance I was sold. Ad-free, more privacy and no CEO like spez to come in and ruin my experience sold me on Lemmy. I was on reddit for 15 years.

Yep. I hope that companies start to do this and use it as an offset to their carbon footprint. Eventually when all companies are measured by how much they pollute, this will be one of their levers to pull.
