I have accounts with a few other instances. They're all federated with Lemmy.world, and it seems the most active communities stem on Lemmy.world. Posts may not get blocked as often on other instances, but the echos still lean deep in one direction or another.

Just my observation so far.

Damn fine question.

I'm here partly because it seems to be the most active instance. I also don't hate all the assholes that like to mute nonconformists. I actually like to hear some of their output, and often find myself in agreement. It would be nice, though, not to see so many random ideological digs and parroting through threads. It feels like the same brain constantly high-fiving itself on repeated hot takes.

Most importantly, though, I want to leave Reddit. I certainly had similar complaints there, but not to the degree I've so far witnessed here.

No soup for you!

But hey, at least you got a reason. I think the squirrelly bastards just remove most posts without question so they can substitute authority over their lack of nuts.

I've certainly had lesser infractions removed in less time. This must've slipped by the Lemmy police.

These Russian characters sure are dramatic. When this is all over I hope we get some good documentaries and movies about this whole special military operation fiasco.

This place is a far worse echo chamber than Reddit, and mods fall right in line. I've seen too many posts get downvoted to hell for simple opinions, and other 'dissenters' get posts removed that should have just been part of open discussions.

I've said this before, even in a lighter tone, and those posts mysteriously disappeared. I'm betting this one will be removed too.

From what I remember, there's a very heavy emphasis on engineering in Russia, and they produce more engineers than any other country. They may have some brain drain, but plenty to spare.

Niche communities and diversity of thought. The majority of interactions I see here feel like back and forth conversations from the same isolated brain, and even the mildest dissenters are overly downvoted or removed from discussions.

That's what I disliked most about Reddit, and it's even more concentrated here.

It seems Lemmy is as much of an echo chamber as anywhere else. Even when I agree with the hive I like to read differing viewpoints, but there's no easy way to sort through them here. We can't be well-rounded when all we see are the same opinions endlessly reinforced in discussions.

The term 'YOLO' has merit (self.unpopularopinion)

Within reason and calculated risk, of course, but it's best not to let life pass you by.

Dumb sounding term, no question, and often used in jest, but I've come to accept it.

So, remember kids, YOLO.

This is for the Lemmy history nuts
