My main question is: What is Meta's goal with federation?

Been trying to figure this out for a while. To get our users/content? The entire fediverse is tiny compared to Threads. EEE? Entirely possible, and others have pointed out how they'd do it, but they haven't federated yet and it feels like it'd be near pointless given the content disparity, though an evil corp will always try to monopolize. To get around EU gatekeeping laws? Possible, and would explain why they haven't launched in europe yet.

Not a fan of that argument. Twitter/Threads/Facebook/Reddit/etc are big enough to be considered a public forum, even if they're being controlled by a private entity rather than a government.

Zuck got defederated by the other pieces last turn. He can move there, but will fail take any pieces.

Are there any torrent clients that don't have that? qbittorrent has it, and even the ancient utorrent had it.

lemmy.ml doesn't have easy signups the way lemmy.world does.

Though I do have accounts on a few different instances, just in case. And so I don't get blinded by light mode when links send me to another instance.

Well, you see, the CEO really wants another mega-yacht. So obviously, decreasing profits by actually paying their workers a reasonable wage is bad, it'll delay the purchase of the yacht by days. Multiple days even!
