Back in 2007, I had just finished college and was traveling cross country to start a new job. I had to stop and get emergency surgery on the way there and ended up in the hospital for a few days. These are good things to be aware of, and many popular programs such as iNaturalist and ebird do obscure some vulnerable species, but let's not forgot that habitat loss and climate change are driving these species to the point where they're nearly extinct in the first place. The take away shouldn't be "stay home to protect nature", it should be "take your government to task to protect these and enjoy them responsibly when you do decide to see them".

Fosterierias are generally not considered edible, but I'm from the southeast and only familiar with F. Accuminata (swamp privet). There are a lot of plants in the olive family that aren't edible including ash trees and privet.
I found an article on eattheweeds.com, and even Green Deane says they're inedible.
Absolutely figs. One of the easiest things to grow, even in a container. The easiest citrus to grow in a container is probably kumquat.
Not annual, but not many fruits are. Maybe just melons and tomatoes.
I'm having the same issue. Did you ever get an answer?
