I just didn't go to my graduation ceremony, despite there being free dinner. Was (and had been for ages) struggling with pretty bad depression and didn't feel I deserved any of it.

Coming from a not English speaking country where subtitles instead of dubbing is the rule, it's kinda the opposite for me. Subtitles allow me to see at a glance what to expect, so I'll have an easier time focusing on the dialogue. I have some kind of hearing impairment, so that while my hearing is very good, it only takes a little bit of noise to muddy speech so that I really struggle to make out words. That said, subtitle translation quality has been going downhill fast for the past 15+, and that has made them a lot less useful. Especially with companies like Disney and Netflix not caring one bit about translation quality, only how much they cost to make. When you're watching Star Wars and they start talking about attack helicopters, it's time to switch off the subtitles.

Anyway, I'm sure it's largely down to habit. If you've grown up reading subtitles and it's perfectly normal to you, they're not distracting and you don't spend a lot of time on them. I can easily see how it could be a completely different experience when it's an exception and not the rule.

Until recently, I had some butter on a butter plate with a lid, and would take it to room temperature in advance of wanting to use it. Not the best method, but better than only having fridge temperature butter. A few weeks ago I got a French butter dish after being introduced to the concept. You can keep a good dose of butter in room temperature, with water making it airtight so the butter stays fresh. So far very much liking it.

If it's the only thing you drink, price adds up fast.

One of the companies making GPS navigators for cars used to advertise lifetime map updates. Small print: lifetime of the device, two years after release

If I recall correctly, dwarves born in the fortress or arriving as babies remained roughly cat sized throughout their lives, as they didn't actually grow in size while growing up.

Whatever it does, it doesn't seem to help with colors.

Sadly your average person just doesn't care about consumer rights, in any matter.

I learned my lesson about malicious DRM when Starforce broke my new computer's DVD drive back in the day. Fortunately it was still under warranty so I had it fixed, but sucked all the same.
