Which speak to the bigger problem of why don't we have this globally? Why hasn't the US had the legislative balls to implement and enforce an equivalent law? For a culture that is so paranoid about personal information, it's just such a massive mental gap.

This is correct. There's absolutely a SVP/EVP or board member ready to take up an interim role while they work their way through the process of a new CEO.

I'm in an engineering field, and I can tell you this absolutely holds true.

I've been very average in my own specialty of electrical engineering, but because I've taken the time to deep dive into mechanical engineering and controls/automation, I've far surpassed my peers career wise.

Absolutely social media is the problem.

The echo chambers, the propagation of facist ideology, the state sponsored misinformation campaigns, the anti-intellectualism, all made possible by social media. No where else could these banes on modern democracy and society have been so easily bred but on social media.

Perhaps we can find solace in the fact that Voyager will stand as a monument to our determination for scientific progress, space exploration and technical ingenuity.

The probably of Voyager crashing into anything is so incredibly miniscule that it will very likely outlast our civilization and even us as a species. Any deterioration of the physical craft in a vacuum will be so slow it will last for geological timescales.

Holy shit dude.

I'm a fan of your war stories. The amount of shit you've survived must put you on par with chuck norris or something.

We barely document how we wipe our asses or shower because it's such a mundane, day to day thing.

Writing was limited, so I hypothesize that people would focus on important things like tax collections, kingly births or even that cunt Ea-Nasir. Less so on kissing or things they would find mundane.

The founding fathers were correct. A pure democracy is also known as mob rule. Anytime you can get 51% to agree with you, you can do whatever you like.

If 51% vote to take the homes of black people, that's decided and done.

Which is why modern democracies are all some form of representative democracy. Which in theory is supposed to act as a sort of check and balance on the system.

I appreciate your nuanced answer. That's something a lot of "why not just pay for YouTube premium" guys don't

You raised good points and if you're happy to pay for the convenience, I'm not going to fight you on that.

While I don't fully agree with paying for a service that doesn't listen to their customers(bring back dislikes), I can still see where you're coming from.
