Why you following him? Just wondering.

Yeah that makes sense. So, we kind of need people like Sophia to make statements like this for ya'll who "can't" due to risks involved?
Rather than disparaging her sentiment we should be thanking her, and those like her for taking a stand when we are unable to.
She was a 21yo student, obviously she isnt speaking from the experience of a mid 30~ with a family. Putting that aside, are you saying that a person with a family, by necessity, needs to restructure values to include survival by any means? By making waves you would introduce potential harm to the family?
No doubt the folks she is referring to do this, but shit... thats putting way to much power into those that expect you to not make waves which would only embolden someone to take advantage of that with threats of intimidation.
Lol yeah exactly.. Its such a brain dead take.
Its so liberating to just accept this mindset everyhwhere. I personally feel so comfortable voting with my wallet I don't even feel a sense of missing out anymore.
Yeah watch me not deny it tho; I intended for it to be snarky and anticipated this impact.
I'll counter your anectdote with my own. Every single Linux community member I have encountered on my journey to use this as a daily driver (arch BTW) has been incredibly helpful.
Intention vs. Impact, look it up.
I downvoted because of the snark in first paragraph.
Yeah fuck this guys (OP, not the person I'm replying under) take. Hobbies need less gatekeepers and if I want to do research about gear, make nice purchases as a way to deepen my investment into the hobby so be it.
Example: I just got into fitness. I have almost no need for some of the products ive been buying, however through the research ive stumbled across some excellent articles and a few YouTube channels that inspire me. Even if the gear / gadgets do nothing more than inspire you to show up and try them out, its worked.
This is the way, van even organize into categories. I've never understood the appeal of having 400+ tabs open in a browser all the time.
They could be smart about it. No taxation on inheritance under 2 million (I'm pulling these #s from the sky). Anything over gets taxed progressively; if if these billionaires won't pay up during life we can grab it on the way out.
