I had smack and crack habits off and on for almost twenty years. Never stole anything (aside from occasionally shoplifted food). I always worked and paid for my shit. However there are an awful lot of people out there who use their habits to justify shitty behaviour, so yeah, I'd err on the side of caution.
Yeah, fediverse platforms aren't going to seriously compete against the big corporate ones until the user experience is as simple.

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of what they assume is shoplifting is actually internal. That's going to happen if companies don't pay their employees enough to cover food and rent.
I've no problem with idiots who drink it, they shouldn't be allowed to give it to their kids though.
My issue is power consumption. Where I live, I rely on solar panels and batteries, and the steam deck is less power hungry than a laptop with graphics card.
Hmm yeah I was thinking about possibly trying to boot from a usb. Haven't done that with linux since the 90s, I guess I assumed the linux os thingie would be too big or too slow. Maybe I'll give that a try, thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah I've been out of the loop with tech for fuckin decades. Bought the laptop a while back without knowing about the Nvidia ting. TBH I mostly start the laptop up maybe once a week for spreadsheets, calibre, and as a file transfer medium. I'd planned on using it for gaming too but then I got a steam deck. But yeah, there's some stuff I can't easily do on steam deck and I'm really getting sick of fuckin windows. Every time I start the machine it's trying to install some new AI shit or something. I don't need that, just want a working computer!
But you're right - next time I buy a laptop - if I need to - I'm thinking AMD for sure.
Edit - also because of my living situation (I don't live in a house, all my electric comes from a solar panel) power consumption is a real issue for me. And that laptop is power hungry.
Yeah I don't either. I have an oled steam deck, my mate has an LCD one. I can't really see much difference TBH, they're both great little machines.
I've heard linux has problems with laptops with Nvidia cards, like I have. Is this still an issue? I'm getting pretty fucked off with windows but frankly don't have time to embark on an ongoing technical challenge.

Hi yeah so this is a follow-up post. I posted a pic of my garden maybe a month ago and said I'd post more pics over summer, so here is its current state. As you can see, the gladioli are coming and going, the calendulas are bullet proof (those fuckers will flower when temp drops to zero). There's a couple of grafted apples in the mix, my marigolds got nailed by slugs (lotta slugs and snails this year). I'm not growing any food aside from the apples which are too small to fruit and the heritage beef tomato someone gave me. The sweet peas are almost over, gutted cos I love how tarty they smell! But I've been saving seed pods. There's a bit more stuff in the mix.
Obviously growing in pots and crates is challenging but as you can see I live in a van and my plants have to be able to move when I have to go. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'd love a proper garden but I'm doing my best. Anyhoo, the bees and butterflies love it, and so do I.

I'm mostly about flowers, I'm not growing any food this summer except that tomato plant in the blue crate, someone gave me that and I couldn't not give it a chance. I think it's a heritage beef tomato. There's a couple of apples in the mix, one of em flowered in spring but they were only cuttings& grafts last year so doubt it'll fruit. The rest is meant to be pretty stuff, sweet peas, calendulas (dead headed, hopefully back soon, those fuckers are bulletproof), marigolds (slug attack but couple survivors) gladioli, couple of roses, snap dragons, sunflowers be coming late due to sluggery, cornflowers, the orange crate is supposed to be meadow flowers, we'll see what happens there. Anyway, if no-one tells me not to I'll post another pic in a few weeks cos all being well it'll only get prettier

Yeah, I recently replayed homeworld 1 and 2 and they hold up well. Still haven't played Deserts of Kharak but that looks good too. I've not played 3 either but unfortunately I've heard it's not great.
