It depends on the species and your climate. Most deciduous trees are fine being watered once a week if kept outside over winter. If you're climate is extremely cold you may need to bring them into a greenhouse or other protected space to prevent the roots from getting damaged.

They probably got tired of seeing their family die from treatable diseases.

 

Time for some weeding

 

It's about 12 years old with some nice jin and movement.

 

Plan to wire the branches this fall to define the initial structure better.

Any of you work on these?

 

I built this garden shed to hold potting supplies and lawn tools for my bonsai garden. It was a fun exercise playing with the nail gun and I didn't even stab myself. The shed definitely is not plumb or square, but it hasn't fallen over yet so I'm pleased.

 

Thinking elm, zelkova, or hawthorn.
