Same here. Just got one of those right after opening this post.
Also, just noticed the upvotes count changing frequently, like from 9 to 800+, then 400+, 100+, 800+ again. lol
Yeah I think the 'branding' is important, to make it looks more polished and attract new people.
The green is from the default dark theme and from the join-lemmy site, so I guess it's the 'brand color'. But if they tweak the instance colors to include blue, it could fit better.
To make it look more like a planet, I tried to add some lines, but with the Lemmy logo in the front it didn't look good. So I added a little 'moon' to the side in hopes it makes it look more like a planet lol (and as a side effect I guess it kinda makes a nod to snoo antenna)
I've made a post just yesterday with some suggestions xD But I guess they were already working on a new one, and the generic globe was just a placeholder.
The new one seems to follow the same style as their Mastodon.world logo.
I think it's better than the placeholder, but a bit hard to read maybe.
And I particularly would prefer if the Lemmy instances tried to follow a similar design rules (in the logo and overall site design, and if possible in their names/domains lol), so it have a consistent branding and look more visually appealing to possible new users.
So that I don't suffer alone
