Oregon and Washington are finalizing a deal to join the Big Ten Conference, which would expand to 18 members in 2024, sources told ESPN.

The departures put Oregon and Washington's former conference, the century-old Pac-12, in flux. Arizona has applied to and been admitted to the Big 12, ESPN sources said, although that deal has yet to be finalized. And conversations between the Big 12 and Utah and Arizona State ramped up Friday, sources said.

Trending weather conditions may allow for rapid growth on the Bedrock Fire, which was last reported on August 3 at 5% contained and a total size of 12,213 acres, according to fire management officials.

Would that make them Lemmigrants?

In the Eugene/Springfield area, the Northwest Youth Corps works with Eugene Springfield Fire to identify neighborhoods that are potentially at risk if a wildfire were to come through. One that has been identified is the Laurel Hill neighborhood near Hendricks Park.

Danny Woodcock, who lives in the area, says that his house was massively overgrown last fall, with some bushes nearly coming in contact with power lines. "I was about to call the City and say, 'Do you think we should have you guys trim that?'" Woodcock said. "That's when [Northwest Youth Corps] came in and saved the day."

In theory one of the big instances like lemmy.world or lemmy.ml should be indexed and searchable using the site: tag, and their local caches of communities originating on other instances should be included. It might mean that Google returns multiple duplicate pages (one for each instance indexed) however, unless Google takes steps to reduce duplication. Time will tell I guess.

Oh my. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAQ-VZUdiqg

The Star Wars Christmas Special TV show had an audio-only equivalent. I regret learning that today.

This is the first time I've read "The Threadiverse" used to describe Lemmy and Kbin. I think that's an excellent way to differentiate them from the rest of the Fediverse apps, while recognizing that they're largely the same in purpose.

91-year-old John Finnie is finally checking off skydiving from his bucket list. It's something he has always wanted to do since he was in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Over 150 Starbucks storefronts and 3,500 workers were on strike Saturday - including those at Eugene's Franklin Boulevard location.

He's moving to Belarus, which may as well be the same thing.

The mobile crisis intervention program CAHOOTS is now merging with Eugene Springfield Fire, according to local authorities.

Officials said the decision followed a review last year of the organization’s budget and data. Ultimately, it was determined that the move was best for what the program needs, though local fire officials said it won’t change how CAHOOTS operates.

There's a constant stream of live coverage in the /r/worldnews Ukraine war megathread, but otherwise yeah it's surprisingly quiet.

The Oregon State Police say they have identified the subjects in the vandalism of the Heceta Head Lighthouse but have not publicly named them.

In July 2020, Ashley Carr and her friend Kinaya Haug were sitting in Haug’s car in front of Carr’s home in Springfield when they were detained by Springfield Police Officer Joseph Burke.

Maybe have the bot pick one of the similar magazines like world, news, and worldnews for each crosspost instead of posting to all of them? Since there are so many new communities a lot of us have subscribed to all of them for now while we try to decide which fits our needs best. By spamming into every magazine/community that is similar to the Reddit sub you're pulling from, you're creating a lot of duplicates in our feeds. Otherwise I welcome seeing more content here, and applaud your efforts!

Looks pretty good! Does it support Dark Mode yet?

That's actually pretty terrifying. I hope that MS is working 24/7 on a fix.

How do I send a private message to another fediverse user from kbin? I thought maybe if I viewed their profile I'd have the option, but nothing obvious stood out.

Oregon lawmakers on Wednesday voted to end a prohibition on self-serve gas that’s been in place since 1951.

House Bill 2426 would require gas stations to staff at least half of their open pumps for people who want assistance. But it would allow other pumps to be open for self-service.
