That's a type. It's what Russian Communism developed into. Not all Communist theory says you need to get rid of the state either, that's Chinese Communism.

There's even Communist theory that includes a thriving democracy.

We did kind of spend 60 years demonizing, embargoing, and physically destroying communist countries.

The myth that Capitalism is immune to dictatorships was Cold War propaganda. Capitalism actually shows just how good a well established Democracy works to prevent Dictatorship. Because the defining trait of Capitalism is to concentrate wealth in the most efficient manner and money often equals political power.

There were plenty of Capitalist dictators during the Cold War and off the top of my head there's still Saudi Arabia with a Monarchy.

Democracy isn't a core requirement of capitalism either. Saudi Arabia is very capitalist and they're a Monarchy.

It's far more likely to just be that communism was the new flavor for a while and they suffered the same fate as most rebellions. When the guard rails, (whatever they are), come down, then the bad guys will try to take advantage.

It's the opportunist problem. We see this throughout rebellions in history, not just when communist countries are made. Basically, anytime conditions are bad enough for the people to demand change it's really easy for someone to trade on their ignorance. They can push policies that sound like they'll help but really consolidate power. And if anyone speaks up, they're an enemy of the people.

For a non Communist example of this in modern history check out the French Revolution.

Nah, the next is going to be impeached for cultist shit. The writers don't like to repeat story arcs that quickly. Gotta let them simmer for a few years before you bring them back. Schedule says Rich People Cult tries to embezzle money.

No.

If you must vote and vote for the "correct" party then you don't have a democracy. Either we exercised our democratic responsibilities this year or we lost our democracy a decade ago and we're just now finding out about it.

Either way, lesser evil voting is not a democratic ideal.

[–] Maggoty 0 points 33 minutes ago

No he's saying we must vote for one of the two parties, thereby manufacturing consent for whatever they decide to shovel down our throats.

[–] Maggoty 1 points 37 minutes ago

Well you see the Democrats are a gerontocracy and if they pushed him out then they could do the same to someone like Pelosi. Don't you know it's their god given right to die in office after years of going senile on live TV?

Escape velocity means you could stay in orbit. It doesn't guarantee anything if you launch at the wrong angle.

Technically he has the power. Double technically though Congress can shut him down right away, or even make an invasion illegal while he's still mobilizing troops.

They are, but we have plenty of Zinc mining we can get it from ourselves. It's just an economics matter, so we'd subsidize that. We only use enough to fill one truck load per year. So it's likely we'd just get a defense contractor to do it and subsidize it

That's it, include a link of course but otherwise it's unchanged.

Sidebar Rules Are Updated (self.newcommunities)
submitted 1 month ago by Maggoty to c/newcommunities

Several people pointed out that our rules for behavior weren't immediately apparent. While I would say this shouldn't be an issue in a community about posting new communities, I have been proven wrong on multiple occasions. So I have made the list in our sidebar. These are a paraphrasing of Mastodon.World's rules. So there is no functional change. We will continue to use their rules as a master list. But they boil down to being civil. If you don't like something or someone and have no constructive criticism, then you just move on.

I'm going to put changes here as well so people on apps can see them easier.

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World’s rules. You can click the link but we’ve reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn’t a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

  1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.(link)

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn’t rule breaking and we can’t be supportive to them then we probably shouldn’t engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

Civility in New Communities (self.newcommunities)
submitted 1 month ago by Maggoty to c/newcommunities

Guys I understand there's big stuff going on in the world. This community though is really just about finding other communities. For now, on the theory that people kind of forgot where they were, some temp bans were handed out. I have no pretensions of this being c/news or something. But I also have no pretensions of this being c/news. It is absolutely beyond the pale to post your political broadsides here while people are trying to figure out the best place to have their community. The only way politics is acceptable here is if you're talking about opening or moving a community about politics or because of politics. And it should absolutely remain civil. A simple, "I don't like your ideology", is enough here.

Here we go again.

A Federal Reserve database of master accounts reveals “stunning” information in Wyoming-based Custodia Bank’s precedent-setting lawsuit against the Fed for denying its master account.

The Biden administration wants to set up a deconfliction line with China in much the same way they set one up with Russia during the Cold War. They're also signaling that future cooperation may come in the financial sector or by refining sanctions by tapping the Treasury Secretary as one of the next US officials to meet with Chinese leaders. The Commerce Secretary may also be about looking for a ways to offset the US bringing chip production home.
