Hi all!

I'm trying to gain an understanding of how people search and find websites nowadays, with a short foray into domain extensions.

Here's the survey. It's only 7 short questions, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Thank you!

@LukeSky Well, what kind of things does she like to stitch? Funny text? Flowers? Animals?

Hi all,

I'm trying to add quick links in a Google Doc to another Google Doc on the same account. Notion does this easily by typing @DocNameHere, and it magically works. Is there a function like this? I'm getting tired of going to the Doc I want to link, hitting Share, copying the link, back to the Doc I was working in, paste. There has to be an easier way.

Thanks!

Easier said than done 😉

I tried Dune a few times, I just can't do it. Not the books, not the miniseries, not the new movie. In theory it sounds great, but... It's not gripping me at all for some reason.

Lore is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed podcast about true life scary stories. Lore exposes the darker side of history, exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares, and has been adapted for television by Amazon, as well as published as a three-book set called The World of Lore by Penguin Random House.

Each episode examines a new dark historical tale in a modern campfire experience. With more than 33,500 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts and over 415-million listens, that's clearly a good thing.

New episodes are released every two weeks, on Mondays.

@kindenough I'm currently using the Duckduckgo browser for 95% of my online stuff. Sadly it doesn't work with a lot of payment sites, so it's back to Chrome for that (I know Firefox has more privacy, I just never really got into it).

I also found Startpage recently, but they went the way of Qwant as well https://restoreprivacy.com/startpage-system1-privacy-one-group

Have a good weekend too!

@kindenough Thanks, I had no idea! I will pass this on to the person that made me aware of it!

Turns out, the existence of Mannish Women goes back far further than our modern discussions about gender. Starting in the mid 19th century, women not only dressed in masculine clothing, but acting, speaking, and living in mannish ways, became a concern. A growing trend to embrace the fashion styles of tailored suits brought about mannish fashion in the 1890s. The "new woman" picked all of this up and added bicycles to the mix. Sometimes mannish women stood with suffrage movements and political efforts, tying together our modern image of the very un-feminine suffragette. These women weren't always seen as ideal during the Victorian or Edwardian eras, but they persisted none-the-less. Even when "science" was being used against them or concerns over the end of society were put forward. For many, it was a simpler and more practical way of dressing. Others saw it as a completely different lifestyle and worked to throw off the expectations that had been placed on them. Embraced by a number of famous sapphic women of the early 20th century, it likely had a hand in creating the butch lesbian of today. Simply put, mannish women have been around for far longer than we realize, and the concerns over them really haven't changed in 150 years. There loads of recipes online on how to get dinner on the table in 30 seconds or less, but what are your slow and complicated favourites? Sauce that needs to simmer for two days? Low and slow braises? Pizza sourdough that rests for 5 days? What have we got here? 😬

Is anything safe to buy anymore?

I mean, yes I love Nolan's practical effects, but... Was this this random pollution really necessary?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah I was afraid of that, thanks!

I'm trying to move from Chrome to Duckduckgo browser, but I'm missing some extensions, among which is Tampermonkey. Does anyone have an idea how to get it to work? Thanks!

Alien Victory by Starcadian!

Alien Victory

I read the Handmaid's Tale yesterday, finally. I'm disappointed. I did not like the writing style at all, there was no real story, just descriptions. And then it just ended. No conclusion or anything.

My best guess it's because the TV show was so intense and well made (at least the earlier seasons), and the book was... Not? Episodes would stay with me for days, but I'm struggling to recall the book already.

Maybe the book is supposed to be unsatisfying to go with the theme. Nothing much happened after Gilead was created, every day just kinda goes by. Sure there was some torture and death, but... Eh.

Maybe I was expecting too much after all the praise it got. It's my first Atwood book, and way way outside of my usual genre (fantasy, scifi, horror).

What did you all think of it?
