You're right, Dave was born in '73, long past the Boomer cutoff point. Boomer is just another easy target to blame this mindset on but like you say this is something that defies generational gaps. I've met quite a few transphobic millennials/gen z-ers and from what I've seen on youngpeopleyoutube, really young kids are already being poisoned by transphobic social media subcultures.

I've heard that Reddit is trying to kill that too so people will use their godawful search feature instead. I got a prompt from the site to take a survey about it sometimes last month and that's what people were theorizing that it was about.

I've been listening to music from the 60s almost exclusively on spotify this year. The algorithm is hell bent on me listening to the band "The Smoke". I really don't think a one hit wonder band that broke up in 1976 would be paying to have their music pushed so hard like that.
