Sadly in France, no one use Apple Maps. (Like iMessage haha, I know it’s a big thing in USA but not in europe)
I didn't want to justify my choice, but I have a slight handicap in my hand that prevents me from using large smartphones easily. (Malformation of the little finger)
Try and find me an Android phone the size of my iPhone 13 mini were you can put a privacy friendly os, and yes, we'll talk.
I've been on CalyxOs for over two years, but the pixels are too big, so the iPhone 13 mini was the best compromise for my privacy and my disability.
I know it's not perfect, but that's no reason to criticise it gratuitously without knowing the context.
What's more, Apple Maps in France isn't very effective, so it's not a convincing alternative.
I've been using Magic Earth for daily navigation for 5 years now and I love it! However, when it comes to finding up-to-date points of interest, historical sites, obtaining opening times for certain places, etc., etc., it's mission impossible… This is why I m asking 😉
Orion on iOS is a web browser compatible with most of firefox extentions! I use it everyday and I’m happy with it :)
And I wish the same for the combo AndroidAuto/Apple CarPlay. (But I have no hopes for this one haha)
I don't see anyone talking about it here but I'd dream of an open source alternative to AndroidTV/Apple Tv. Firstly because ATV is ultra-dependent on Google, and secondly because the interface is unclear and not really pretty.
Today I've switched to Apple TV, which is much better in terms of UX, but the OS is too closed and sideloading isn't possible...
So I hope to see some sort of CalyxOS / LineageOS for Tv arrive one day!
I use it every day. The results are much better than Duckduckgo, but maybe that's because I'm French and it's a French service.
I don't know how good it is for non-French customers.
Elementary, the futur from 2012 :
+1 but not updated since 1 year now 🫤
Hoper it will be good as Ente Photo in term of user experience !
As a light user of the drive, I find that Proton Drive is clearly the worst product from Proton. I use the office-focused functions very little, but I really find that the photo part is quite lacking.
On one hand, the transfer speed is quite slow, and on the other, the functions are extremely limited. Between the inconvenient interface, no search options, no folders, no information on the exif metadata, etc...
Moreover, I think that even if the storage space for photos should be allocated from the drive's storage, it is necessary to create a separate application dedicated to the photo gallery. It is not natural to have to click on a file logo of the Proton Drive app to access your gallery.
In the meantime, I will stick with ente.io because it is the only truly convincing alternative to Google Photos in terms of features, compatibility, speed, and simplicity…
