your are connecting two different pieces of data. The speed that a person can run a marathon vs. the ability to run a marathon.

What they are stating is that women are better able to run that distance not that they are faster at running that distance than men.

I do similar things when a task has two physically separate locations like taking out the trash.

While walking out with the trash I will repeat constantly "put in new bag" all the way to the garbage and all the way back, otherwise the task doesn't get completed.

I think the shift in political affiliation had something to do with Regan and the de-regulation of many different business sectors by the republicans in the 80's and 90's.

It became 'easier' to make money and with lower taxes those people got to keep more of it (at the expense of other Americans). So as these boomers started getting out of college in the late 70's and 80's they could now become stock brokers, bankers, real estate brokers, etc instead of a 9 - 5 factory worker. And those were the industries that were getting a lot of lower regulations from republicans so why not vote for their best interest and leave the left wing ideals to someone else.

I hope you forgot to put an /s at the end of your comment

There are a lot of 'content creators' that pose as journalists.

There are journalists that do great work but since their stories can run counter to a narrative, it can be more difficult to find those articles.

seems greed likely started to drive everything, they pushed expansion over safety, and wound up killing people.

Thank god this is an isolated incident in corporate America. /s

  • Having to buy out private land owners who will take the government to court which can take years to decades to figure out
  • Having to do environmental assessment of all the land that will be impacted by the high speed rail then having to re plan the route to avoid sensitive areas and wildlife which would take years if not decades to complete
  • Having to raise taxes or shift infrastructure funding to build the rail line
  • Contracting out the work to private companies that will inevitably raise costs dramatically because it's a government project
  • Having to negotiate with state and local governments that will want (or not want) the rail line to go through their town, city and state.
  • If the route is going through a mountainous region having to build massive tunnels (not unheard of just more money and longer build time)
  • Contracting out companies to build the rail cars specifically and having them work closely and accurately with the companies building the rail lines.
  • If the rail line is going through Texas and is going to use electricity then the government will have to negotiate with the Texas electrical grid, probably demand that they do a better job of keeping it online.
  • Promoting the rail line enough so that it gets used more
  • Dealing with oil, gas, automotive, and airline lobbies along with all the secondary and tertiary companies and industries that rely on those industries that will lobby to keep it from going through.

This is all just stuff that came off the top of my head. I don't know if it is all valid or not.

Don't get me wrong I would fucking love to have a extensive, reliable high speed rail in the US I just don't think it will happen without huge push from the voters and I'm skeptical that will happen.

I've thought about this idea for a long time.

Having sensors in the road (along the side and middle line) and receivers on cars would do a lot of good.

The sensors could tell the car how close it is to the side/middle. They could tell the car how close other cars are around them. They could tell the car the condition of the road surface (ex wet or icy). They could be programmed to the speed limit of the road and keep the cars moving at that speed. Probably many others uses.

The downside is building a sensor that can withstand weather, traffic, crumbling infrastructure. Also they would have to have a way to stay powered up for years. And if you made them re-programmable there is another level of security that needs to be added to them. And then there is the cost to retro-fit all the roads with these sensors and building a common receiver that could be installed on new cars.

I don't think my idea is practical at all but it's a cool idea

Serious question:

What would it look like for Harris or the DNC to be a bully to trump?

weight loss is great but as you get older building muscle and strength is just as important - especially if you are female.
