UP changing their minds could also have something to do with the Brightline's apparent success in Florida.

I say bring it on. The more reasons to avoid taking 35, the better.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see "following" as an endorsement at all. To me, it's an incredibly passive action which affects nothing but a near-meaningless internet number and the content which shows up in your feed. For example, I follow over 3000 accounts on one of my social media profiles. Do my views need to perfectly align with every single one of those? When does it become not okay to follow someone?

My point is, people can follow a page for a multitude of reasons. I follow several online accounts and politicians specifically because I disagree with the content they post. I personally think it's better to know what your enemy is up to rather than to stick your head in the sand and pretend they don't exist. I would hope that doesn't make me a bad person, but there are many people online who apparently think otherwise 🤷

Tam Deli on North Lamar does an excellent $8 Banh Mi, assuming they haven't raised their prices.

Warm water breeds stronger hurricanes quicker. This is pretty scary news for any Floridians who are already nervous about hurricane season.

It's rather odd. YouTube links used to embed just fine, and you can even navigate to older YouTube posts where the embedding still works just fine. Not sure what was changed recently that broke the feature.

Full article by Britny EubankAUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating after an incident that resulted in an officer fatally shooting a man.

Police Chief Joseph Chacon said at 4:54 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, a 911 call came in indicating a woman was frantically knocking on the door of an apartment at the Tides at South Lamar complex, located at 3622 Menchaca Road. The caller said the woman was asking for help.

One minute later, APD officers headed to the residence, where they arrived four to five minutes later and spoke with the woman who was knocking on the door. The woman told police there was a man chasing her throughout the complex and that she feared for her life.

The officers broadcasted that a man was seen running west through the complex. Chacon said that body camera video from the responding officers showed the man had a weapon that looked like a knife.

According to Chacon, the officers ordered the man to drop the weapon before drawing their weapons and trying to de-escalate the situation.

Chacon said that the man yelled at the officers to shoot and kill him. One officer attempted to TASER the man, but it was ineffective. The officers continued to command the man to drop his weapon. A second officer then attempted to TASER the man again, but that was also ineffective, according to Chacon.

It was at this time that a third officer fired his weapon and the man went down. Life-saving measures were performed, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chacon said that the officer who fired their weapon is now on paid administrative leave, per APD's policy. Also per APD policy, the body camera video from the responding officers will be released within 10 days, according to Chacon.

"Our officers are placed in extremely difficult situations every single day. I can tell you that these type of things happen, unfortunately, on a regular basis. And most of the time, we are able to deescalate them, get people into custody safely and with either no injury or minimal injury," Chacon said. "This is just a tragic circumstance. And we've got to take care of officers, as well as take care of the scene and the family of all involved."

Chacon said this is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no information to indicate any danger to the public. The woman involved in the incident is safe and believed to be uninjured. It is not known if she lives at the complex.

No information is available about the man involved in this incident, and it is unclear how he and the woman knew each other.

This investigation is being conducted by APD's special investigation unit.

Didn't see this posted anywhere. As someone who spends a lot of time in the Workshop, it could definitely use some improvements when it comes to discoverability, so it's good to see Valve working towards improving things in that department.

An upcoming project by the Austin’s Transportation and Public Works Department aims to improve pedestrian and bike access along East Fifth Street as part of two planned efforts by CapMetro to double-track the Red Line rail transit network along its existing path through East Austin. The project’s pedestrian upgrades will focus on the stretch of East Fifth Street between Navasota and Pedernales Streets, which includes the rail-adjacent Red Line Parkway trail and connections to other pedestrian networks including the MoKan Trail, Crosstown Bikeway, and EastLink Trail.

In the general area between Navasota and Pedernales Streets, the Red Line Parkway itself will be rebuilt as a combination of “shared-use paths, shared quiet streets, and sidewalks,” according to the city. The currently poor state of the street surface in this area will also be addressed as part of the project. Designs for the streetscape along East Fifth Street will vary based on available space, with the narrower sections of the plan integrating “shared street” features. Here’s a look at cross-sections of the three proposed layouts for different sections of these trail improvements:

A view of rail corridor improvements planned for the stretch of East Fifth Street between Comal and Chicon Streets. In this wider section, protected two-way bike lanes are included.

A view of rail corridor improvements planned for the stretch of East Fifth Street between Chicon and Robert T Martinez Jr. Streets. As the space is narrower in this section, the bike and pedestrian path uses a shared design.

A view of rail corridor improvements planned for the stretch of East Fifth Street between Robert T Martinez Jr. and Pedernales Streets. As this section is the most narrow of the improvement area, a shared street design will be used to route bikes, pedestrians, and automobile traffic on the same path.

The pedestrian and bike infrastructure through this area tends to fly a little under the radar, unless you happen to use them yourself — but with the promise of Project Connect’s future improvements to Austin’s nascent rail network, now is a great time to pursue these adjacent infrastructure upgrades. The city is currently seeking public feedback on these plans, with a virtual open house now available for your perusal.

Of course, if you feel that our cursory overview of the plans for this area have informed you enough, you can always go ahead and fill out the city’s survey on the project between now and Monday, August 14. It doesn’t take long to tell the city your likes and dislikes about the design seen here, and if you’ve ever walked or biked in East Austin before — or perhaps would enjoy doing so if the infrastructure was more accommodating — we promise it’s worth five minutes of your time.

Edit:

I must admit that I had no idea that the c/Android to Lemdroid migration decision was such a controversial one until a few minutes ago, and I feel kind of foolish for jumping the gun on this without gathering any feedback from existing community members. That being said, I still do think it's a wise decision to migrate to Fanaticus, but I don't want to be that guy who makes decisions against the community's wishes. So... Strawpoll time!

Should we move the Tampa Bay Lightning community to fanaticus.social? <- Vote here!

In the event that we do move, I don't plan on perpetually squatting this community. Anyone else is free to moderate this one if they wish to do so.

I will be re-opening this community so that you guys may discuss these options in the comments.

Original Post

TL;DR: In order to better cultivate a more focused Tampa Bay Lightning community on Lemmy, I'm moving this community over to fanaticus.social - a lemmy instance dedicated to hosting various sports and team communities.

Don't worry, you don't need to make a new account. You can still join it even if your account is on Lemmy.World — just click this link c/TampaBayLightning at fanaticus.social and subscribe, the same way you did here. Indeed, some of you are already based on instances other than LW — that's the handy thing about the Fediverse.

Why?

Although Lemmy.World is an excellent "all purpose" instance that's capable of hosting any type of community out there, I believe that communities are best suited when they live within instances that specifically cater to their interests. Thus, it makes sense to have a hockey team community live on Fanaticus, being that it is a sports-centric instance.

This will not only help decrease the overall load on the lemmy.world server, but will allow us to benefit from some of the great GDT bots and tools that @[email protected] (the admin of Fanaticus) is currently developing.

What happens to this community?

I have ~~locked~~ reopened this community to discuss its future.

In order to avoid potential fragmentation and duplication of threads, this lemmy.world community will be directing all subscribers to post on the Fanaticus community from now on.

Unfortunately, we can't just pack up all the threads here and take them to fanaticus.social, but they'll live on as an archive.

It'll always be here if we need it, but right now it's only a few weeks old and things haven't been too active, so I don't see much reason to return in the future.

See you over at c/TampaBayLightning at fanaticus.social!

Also, check out c/[email protected] - it's a general hockey community that I've lovingly set up and decorated for anyone who'd like to contribute :)

(Special thanks to the c/[email protected] moderator team for creating an excellent guide-post for their migration that I shamelessly copied from to make this one, lol)

Some of you may have migrated from our former community over at lemmy.world, while others may have just now stumbled upon this place.

In any case - welcome! Here's to many more cups in our future. Go Bolts!

This short documentary showcases the best of the 1967 National Hockey League season, set to music in the Tijuana Brass style. Filmed with an eye to grace and style of movement, the film suggests the bullring as much as the hockey arena.

Surprisingly great quality footage from way back in the 60's. That's film for ya.

Hey guys. I haven't posted about this utility in a long time, but I've been working on it in the back periodically. I'm proud to announce my latest version with tons of new features, with even more to come! Since the last post on reddit, I've done the following:

- Updated the HUD Fix scripts thanks to fruit with fixes for text stretching.

- Added tons of visual fixes-- everything found on GBAtemp is now a selectable checkbox that can be added to the exefs patch text. This includes the cutscene fix, disable FSR, FXAA, targeting DOF, LOD reduction, anisotropic filtering, dynamic resolution, and force trilinear filtering.

- Added chuck's latest dynamic fps mod beta (1.5.5 beta 2) with procedural generation of the ini file to customize any FPS, Shadow Resolution, Game resolution, and use the increase camera quality mod

- Added numerous controller options, now you can choose from Xbox, Dualsense (both Alerion921 and StavaasEVG's), Steam, Steam Deck, and Switch (the default). All include blackscreenFix

- Made the controller screen easier to read with images showing what the controller will look like in game and text showing what to map your buttons to. You can no longer select incorrect controller combinations.

- Create buttons allowing you to have the mod automatically generate in the default mod location for either yuzu or ryujinx, or specify a custom folder. A button on the same screen also lets you automatically open that output folder upon completion to view the generated files.

- Created a console in the same tab as the generate button showing progress. The console has a ton of new error messages and messages showing whether you need to wait to avoid thinking its frozen when it is not.

- Reorganized the tabs to make the generation process easier to understand

- Updated support to 1.2.0

- As always, you can still enter any two numbers as your screen's aspect ratio to have the game expand correctly and not stretch.

None of this could have been possible without the wonderful modders in the community. While I have been handling all the logic, GUI, and automation, the real game fixes are made by these wonderful people. Special shoutouts to u/fruithapje21 for all his work on the HUD fixes the bread and butter of this utility which inspired its creation. u/ChucksFeedAndSeed for his amazing work on so many visual fixes that make the game look beautiful. u/alerion921_ttv for his great controller mods for so many different types of inputs all crafted with such care.

As you can probably tell, this utility has turned into a TOTK Settings Menu, and will ultimately lead to a launcher I am creating that will look similar to the launchers for Insomniac's Spiderman games and Skyrim, where it will have a Settings button that lets you configure the game before launching.
