The comment text itself stays but the user says "deleted". You need to use an external tool to delete the post content. Normally I wouldn't nuke my comment history, but the API changes may make such tools stop working soon.

There were scientists who were curious about this as well. They actually found live Twitter data was quite helpful in tracking earthquakes. This is one of the big reasons I believe in keeping social media data open.

The trail was dry for the first couple miles, then I was able to skin and then crampons for climbing Snow Lion couloir to the peak. I saw other people use crampons the whole way though.

There was about an inch. Spring skiing is actually kinda funny because fresh snow can sometimes make things worse. Last weekend was perfect though.

Yeah, automatic posts drive me away faster than anything. Good point on cross posting though, I just followed your advice. It's pretty much free if your post fits in multiple places and there are lots of nearly empty communities right now.

Yeah, the small specialized communities were really the best on Reddit and its the one thing that may pull me back if they don't develop here.

I think the funniest part of all of this is that the ransomware gang seemed to think it was worth their time to target Reddit in the first place. Not sure what good it does then to play the public opinion game now. Ransomware gangs are scum and I think everyone knows it by now.

I hope so, but there are reasons for people to make bot posts. E.g. stock pump and dump schemes, affiliate link spam, spammy advertising of products. I don't know the solution, but it would be nice if there was an anonymous way to enforce "1 person 1 account".

This is a good point. Would you mind writing up a section about that? Undermined snow and crevasses are a bit less of an issue in my area so you may have better direct experience.

This reminds me though, I should probably also add tree wells and tree bombs.

Sorry to hear about the concussion! Hopefully you still enjoy the community.

Yeah, I am a long time lurker from Reddit as well. Now I started a community for back country skiing [email protected] . Feel free to come watch me awkwardly post trip pictures trying to get the community going :-)
