Corporations or paid users moderating their own communities is a conflict of interest. It represents a massive threat to accurate information and a free internet. Yet, it is legal. Therefore, I disagree. Instance owners have a responsibility to watch out for these kinds of things
Old photos in real life? That's a good idea for a community. I went to check it out hoping I'd have something to contribute but unfortunately I don't. One day it will be a lot more active though, I believe it. Just the good ol' ratio of lurkers to active users.
I feel your pain at comedy heaven. One day lol
It’s just wild that one of the worst migrant tragedies has received practically no coverage.
Absolutely. Unfortunately our news cycle is entirely based on what gets clicks and makes money. So they find the story that gets those and focus on it totally instead of sharing that spotlight with things that can be just as important, if not more. Frustrating
Some people on reddit used to make accounts, get them to a lot of karma or mod positions, then sell them for their influence. Kombuchawow may be someone hoping to turn a profit from their account - or just trying to use lemmy to advertise/control content about their brand
Edit: The communities that user moderates are very concerning:
- Phuket
- Kombucha Pros
- Kombuchawow
- Shut up and take my money!
These are just a few of the most obvious conflicts of interest in a corporation or employee moderating.
I agree but surely we can talk about that without desensitizing ourselves to another group of people. Fuck celebrating someone else's suffering
That may be true to your experience but for the first few days I heard about this story it had nothing to do with the who or how much it cost. Stories with novelty will always sell more than stories without much novelty. Edit: And I'm not saying that's right. The accident in Greece is a horrible tragedy, and we should value everyone's lives equally no matter how much wealth they have. There are legitimate points where we as a society turn a blind eye to the poor (always). But, this is not a story that's surprising why it's getting so much attention. It's gross how some people in this comment section are choosing to increase their hatred toward the rich rather than increasing their compassion for the poor
Source banner on the bottom of your photo hisssssss
Hi I'm mod over at c/[email protected] would you be interested in adding each others' communities to our sidebars?
Been involved in some piracy and privacy subs for a while but somehow never found you guys until now. Glad to see you on lemmy!
That's the most important question haha
