One nuance that I think often gets lost is that outside of a very small percentage of cases, if your great great great grandfather fought for the confederate army that isnt a criticism on you or him. Theres every likelihood that he was just another illiterate idiot fed a bunch of rhetoric and told who to fight and be vilified, press ganged or killed if he didnt.
