That's actually pretty positive. Probably a multitude of reasons but in my very limited experience with recent games they are pushed out with tons of problems on any platform. Sometimes the game was just rushed out and this is what turned me off of games for the most part. "It's online, we can just patch it later!"

Also not a fan of paying for the privilege of being a beta tester. Open betas used to be fun times.

That said, based on yours and others replies i think it seems worth it to dig up an old ssd and try some of my games out on Linux on my main. Honestly it seems way better than what it was years ago so I should go see for myself. Thanks!

An interesting point.. i didn't even think about the anti-cheat engines nor considered they'd be bound to windows but yeah i get it, i deal with that on licensing services.

I feel your pain on storage. It's cheaper now but it's all relative. I'll save your UN and hit you up if i stumble into something that may help.

Agreed. Symptoms of both are very dynamic. I was only pointing out how they can interact in certain cases. But it's certainly common undiagnosed ADHD can lead to depression over time. Everyone is different of course.

Thank you, that's the perspective I was looking for.

And while i understand, it's certainly not limited to games or Linux. I too just want things to work and it's become a struggle for one reason or another. I can find a common thread on that but probably not the place for that.

I am optimistic though that gaming will continue to get better and that will be helpful. Despite all the faults it's at least going in the right direction.

You are not wrong but for many the effects of ADHD can cause depression and the effects compound each other.

In my experience the right meds can push past that initial lack of flow state and allow accomplishment of tasks. Without it depression comes because you can't understand why you aren't just getting things done. Snowball effect..

Honest question - what is the current problem(s) in Linux gaming? And I don't mean that the way it sounds, I just haven't done it in a long long time. I mean back then it had to have a linux specific version and you had to deal with X11 mouse input.

Now with Wayland and things like steamdeck existing I'm surprised it's not more viable.

I'm sure it's a long list but what are the main factors? Just a curiosity. Unfortunately I just don't get to play games these days. Still GPU and sound driver issues? Publishers refusing to take the extra steps to make a multi platform engine work on it? Too many unknowns based on flavor of Linux installed?

I wanted to tag on to your post. I've been without power for weather stuff too a few times and one thing i learned was that my cheapie 40" TV would only pull 10-15watts with backlight all the way down. With a small battery bank you can go a good while on that and tune into your local station via OTA. It was very watchable especially given the only light around was my candle.

For a couple more watts you watch shows off your memory stick as well once the event is over and you are just waiting for the power lines to get fixed.. my phone drained nearly as much but to be fair i left the radio enabled so it was hunting for a tower.

Just something to consider for your gear if you live near the coast or in Texas. Battery banks are pretty cheap.

It seems like it would but the pivpn install script always hangs on me whether i I select openvpn or wireguard. Based on some reading I was lead to believe I needed to just use raw openvpn for a TAP interface. I've tried a few times but I always end up with CA issues or just flat out failure to connect.

It should be pretty simple, I'm just trying to bridge my network to a single remote device connected via cellular gateway. Maybe I'm just out of my depth. I've done it before with an old NAS years ago but I've tried a few step by step guides and no dice.

If you have any tips that'd be great!

That's great you rescued her. And if you can rub the belly that means 100% trust. Not that mine don't trust me.. some just don't like it. One of mine does, the other gets confused and flips over so I rub topside and the other nutcase just seems to find great amusement in setting a trap.

Interesting about the food. Mine won't tolerate a low food bowl.. they get super nutty when that happens. My primary 2 share an always full of healthy food bowl. While they eat the same amounts one is super skinny and the other obese. It would be impossible to try and separate their diets so as long as they are active, healthy and happy I see no reason to change it up. But I'm noting the spoon trick if it should ever be needed!

I hope your rescue brings you happiness for your efforts. :) I've always found cats complex and often annoying but they have a way of being quite loving.. when It suits them anyway.

That's awful. Not new, but i guess it's becoming more common.

I was forced to abandon Linux on desktop in 2007. This year on a whim I got back a couple AIOs I had gifted and installed KDE neon and was blown away at how nice it was. And absurdly fast at that.

My main still has to run win for not just games but also Visio. What really gets me is the tools platform i need for work will only run on win despite it being essentially java based. If allowed to run on native Linux I can't help but think it would be much much faster.

I'm currently testing out a portable base win10VM for those softwares. Not an ideal solution but it's working.

I guess while I'm at it I'll go ahead and ask.. is there any OSS alternative to Visio?

I think it's far worse than you make it sound. When I entered the workforce (while also paying to go to a trade school that was a scam) min wage was $6. While I was able to rise through the ranks pretty fast it was a long time of scraping by just to eat and pay bills so i could keep working.

Nearly 30 years later federal minimum wage is $1.25 more than were i started. Adjusted for inflation that's impossible to live on, I didn't have it easy by any means but at least I could survive. I'd never have had a chance with things as they are now. I feel bad for the youth of this country that don't happen to have the right hookups and connections or, sometimes, luck.

Well that is certainly neat how easy it is to add an inline image.

He came passing through one day after I finished mowing the lawn about 3 yrs ago. He was navigating the sprinklers and eating bugs. Pretty pathetic. I couldn't get near him but I went and got some meow mix. I'd never feed my cats this unless emergency as it seems to be like cotton candy or something to them so I exploited that and in a few days I got to pet him.

Was like petting a skeleton. I let him in but could tell that wasn't gonna fly with my other 2. So I installed a cat door so he could access the garage. I'm not sure he's very bright as it was exhausting getting him to figure out he could simply walk through it. He's been around ever since aside from those mysterious 6 weeks.

He's not handsome anymore but he's cool. I'll give him some scritches as you requested, just not on the belly! Like another rescue he forgets that he is safe now and instincts take over when touched the wrong way. Thanks for listening to my dumb cat story!
