It's important that you move on and stop focussing on the past. It can be painful, and usually it is fruitless.

After 12 years moving to a new town in the UK, I realised that so many of my friends and contacts had basically disappeared - moved away, or got into relationships so that family life kept them away from pubs I used to frequent.

It's rarely something personal, often people just move on.

Also consider - don't sign in to YouTube. Set uBlock, and Sponsorblock, too - so when youtube does get watched, the ads and promotions get skipped.

Everyone here is missing the point - by signing in to YouTube, you give Google more power to dominate your life.

With a simple inoreader extension in Firefox, you can visit a youtube/youtuber/video page and subscribe the feed.

Search interesting channels and save them to Feedly, or Inoreader.

Pin those to Firefox, so that your feeds are always refreshed and visible.

To begin with, I'd stop her using the YouTube website logged in.

Set her up with Inoreader - then when you find something interesting, you can visit the 'video' page and subscribe to the feed...

If you log her out, that will mean she just uses it without logging in - which works ok for feeds. She can browse, but it's fresh.

Just a few suggestions that work for me - via RSS feed (not subscribed in Youtube):

  • Juicy Life
  • Sci Show
  • Simonscat
  • FailArmy
  • Daily Dose
  • Vlad Vexler
  • Big Think

With inoreader it's a simple task to mark all items in a folder as read if you want to skip them. Also, with the inoreader account you can log in remotely at any browser, then you can find stuff you think is cool and subscribe - then that will show up in her feeds.

Not only video/youtube.

  • !dadjokes works too - Lemmy stuff, any stuff.https://driveandlisten.herokuapp.com/home

  • Then some interesting pinned tabs/bookmarks like https://window-swap.com/

  • Then you should also show her the new Radio

I love this site, I found a couple of dozen and added them in pyradio app so I've always got interesting listening when I don't want to stare at the screen.

Oh, ok - I missed something.

I started by looking at BeeHaw from a link - but couldn't get in.

Then Lemmy.ml, which promptly failed to do much of anything, I actually made 5 accounts with the same username in Bitwarden (just join, then search up my BendyLemmy and 'auto-fill and save'...).

When Lemmy.world stopped responding (last week I also got tons of errors with Lemmy.ml) I just took a back seat, did something else, then spotted several 'upgraded!!!' posts in my feeds.

Using Linux KDE, every file is indexed - including those in my Obsidian notes folder.

Whenever I find a guide, or interesting web page, I use the addon to download it as Markdown - then open Obsidian and edit out any superfluous crud.

So mostly I use it as a repository for things I don't want to search regularly - guides, tutorials etc.

What about people who eat lots of Omega 3 capsules? You know, that these Fish oils promote intelligence.

They can go in and develop games, with enhanced Arty Fish oil intelligence....

Is it true that eating lots of Omega 3 capsules will help you become a genius painter?

You know, being a human with Arty Fish Oil intelligence?

I gave my wife a ton of those when she was pregnant, now my son's a genius painter!

He’s got arty-fish-oil intelligence.

I don't know, I think I'd better post a question on Reddit.
