I'd say probably the users leaving reddit due to the api changes. Iirc around the 20th was when spez did an AMA about the changes and made PR exponentially worse by using canned responses, throwing subtle insults here and there and ignoring the big questions in favor of what he'd already had his PR team write a response for. It was more rage inducing than the initial api change announcement.

I could be completely wrong though maybe that wasn't on the 20th but feels like it was in my head canon

Same here, boost has been working the whole time, think it only went down this morning which is fine because I feel disgusted with myself Everytime I check my account. They've removed most of the mods that protested and actually gave somewhat of a shit and replaced them with people that don't care about any of that and just wanted to mod. Spez might have had to take the protests a teeny bit more seriously if he didn't have these new spineless mods to replace the old ones which is proven by the fact that he forcibly removed so many in the first place. So I feel icky when viewing any of those subs. Also yeah, he fucked over so many handicapped users removing their preferred 3pa. I know, "but accessibility features are excluded now" - but those that already had their acc. And preferred 3pa set up the way they like it will now have to figure that out which imo would be hard while blind..

Anyway I can't wait for Boost to come here, that's always been my preferred 3pa and if he'd hurry up and port it to Lemmy I'd feel complete again

What's funny is I've been getting 10x more replies since the announced api changes which is odd. Before they were announced I would comment many times a day but rarely ever get many replies. Since the api change announcement? I've been staying off mostly bc fuck that place but when I have checked my account there have been 10-20 replies a day to older comments. Weird. Tin-foil-hat me feels like maybe there was a reduction of interaction after he screwed everyone over and maybe he's using bots to make it seem lively. Definitely seen an increase in bot comments

Haven't seen any identifiable bots here either, on redshit they were everywhere, comment stealers and just plain weird agenda having bots. I hope it doesn't turn into that here, maybe since we haven't really been saturated with bots yet some type of preventative protocol could be put in place? No idea what that would be but it would make sense

It's insane how well this timeline syncs with reddit's API bs!

From the very first day spez announced the API changes and steadily increasing until most of the 3pa shut down then BAM. Good for Lemmy and hopefully bad for reddit!

Unironically yes. Of course when I was around that age I didn't but now I really do. As far as maturity I don't see a major difference between an 18 year old and 22 year old. So you attended school a few more years? Entered the workforce for a few years? That's not maturity imo but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I wouldn't say child but definitely still in the teenager category imo although they're not actually teens ofc

I've got a collection of porn from there if anyone needs it

Boost had a download function.. before those bastards killed it I had a pretty decent catalog of titties.

[–] BallsInTheShredder 3 points 2 years ago

I'm with you, honestly how do you think that content got to reddit in the first place? Sure there's some original content there but 99% of the site is just reposts people got from other sites - and porn. Bring some porn back with you if you have space

[–] BallsInTheShredder 4 points 2 years ago

Yeah, ironically this whole post reminds me of that place

Maybe they're a plant sent from redshit to lower participation by reducing our current favorite topic which is: fuck redshit

People really don't. I deleted my FB for years and quit using it. Whole time I've been telling people that it's poison for your mind.

After a few years of not using it I'd forgotten that and began to wonder if it was true or if maybe it was just my mental state at the time.

Solved that question easily. Reinstated my account a few days ago to get in touch with someone and found myself creeping like I used to.

What did I learn immediately from that? It REALLY IS POISON!! It's horrible for your head!

After going without it for a while I effectively had my "blinders" on and was only focused with my daily life. I've been the happiest I've ever been this year.

Within a half hour of browsing Facebook that peace of mind had vanished! I was once again focusing on the lives of others more than myself. I was thinking of things I could post to show that I have a "life" just like them. I checked on people who didn't like me in the past and found myself perceiving their comments or memes they've posted to be about me. I thought to myself "I'll show them, I'll do this and this, wait until they see it!"

I also found myself feeling lessed blessed than I am. Suddenly my recent accomplishments didn't seem so grand in comparison to all the happy pictures I was seeing. My simple life and simple job seemed like it wasn't enough anymore. I didn't feel enough.

I checked up on my exes, women I've been GLADLY apart from for years and got jealous of how well they seemed to be doing in comparison to what I had going on in life. Little things like them having a partner. This was major irony because I've had the chance to have these partners back and it was a hell no.

So quick. Didn't even browse a full hour and it almost killed the peace of mind I've been working all of these years to obtain. I quit browsing, thankfully.

That night when I laid down, I didn't sleep restfully. Instead of my usual happy thoughts routine while drifting out I had all kinds of negative emotions pop up.

It took me a day or two to snap out of it and focus on what I'M doing in life without the worry of others.

Being connected to others is great. Constantly comparing ourselves to others and thinking about them instead of channeling 100% of our energy into OUR lives is not good for anyone.

I feel like we just haven't evolved to handle that properly. In a small village it's important to keep an eye on each other and care about each other.

Caring about, comparing and keeping an eye on everyone in the entire world? No. We're not meant for that.

What strangers are doing is knowledge I just don't need, unless they're posting self help videos or.. anything beneficial really.

99% of the posts I saw were just "Look what I bought! Look how awesome my life is! Vacation!!!"

And people being super fake.

Fb was cool when we just posted text of how we were actually doing. I cared about that sometimes. That wasn't detrimental to my mental health. Everyone acting like their life is perfect isn't good for anyone bc it makes you wonder why your life isn't that "good" not realizing you're just not being informed of all the struggle, or luck that pays for lives that lavish.

Idk much, but I know that shit is poison And could rant about it more but.. Lemmy don't need my pants. Typo, Lemmy don't need my pants, okay I mean rants there but pants is valid too.

You're not alone, I've been on Reddit for a long time, 12 years on and off since introduced. Honestly never used it much at all until finding Boost 5 or so years ago and have been a daily user ever since spending at least a few hours a day on it just interacting and commenting. I commented more than I viewed posts lol just was always talking. They've done a lot over the years to irritate me as a user, getting all mecha PC and destroying all my favorite communities should've been when I quit but it wasn't. Half the site turning "blue" when I'm not really into politics, sparking constant political discourse for every comment I made that didn't strictly fit the current blue rhetoric was another straw but I dealt with it and tried to keep my comments as bland as I could while still speaking my mind. But now killing the 3pa and this whole shitshow? Nah, I hate their official app and have only ever even used the site thanks to Boost, before boost my account was unused, so shall it be after boost. You know what, it's mainly bc of how much I hate spez now. It was one thing supporting a company with a blank face that fucked me over at every turn, always blaming the mods, the admins, whoever. But spez? I just can't see helping that guy out in any way after all this.
