You already have to jump through 10,000 hoops to get a Chinese ev in America why bother

Volvo / Polestar anyone?

Buying a Geely made Chinese EV is pretty easy now.

Gotta protect domestic corporate profit margins...I mean citizens...gotta protect 'Muricans from those unsafe and affordable, I mean cheap - oh so cheaply made unlike Ford or GM or the others, Chinese electric vehicles.

We don’t even receive the Chinese models here? That Chinese brand that’s the top seller (bd?) isn’t here

That means their chief owner is Chinese, not that those companies or their cars are Chinese. Rams and jeeps aren’t Italian because then owners of Chrysler are..

If I am not mistaken. EVs from Volvo, polestar & lotus sold in the US are made in China. That makes it eligible for tariffs

[–] JJROKCZ 2 points 1 year ago

Ah that’s fair then

The tariffs apply to where the vehicle is manufactured, and many of those vehicles are manufactured in China.

That said, I know Volvo Polestar found some loopholes in the law. I think they’re able to dodge the tariff by importing the vehicles to the US, then exporting them Canada / Mexico. Being an exporter somehow helps them work around some tariffs.
