Welcome to a brand new week, and welcome to all Reddit refugees.

What's everyone up to this week? Looks like it's going to be a rainy one so at least the gardens will be happy.

I'm of that age where it seems a lot of people I know are dying. So I made a decision last week to try and improve my quality of life and applied to reduce my working hours. Application approved and actioned within two days so today... I had the first of my non-working days.

Still need to figure out how best to use this time. Had a nice walk today, that's a fair start. Rest of the week will be work as normal.

That's amazing! Well done for going through with it and kudos to your workplace. I'm sure it'll be weird at first but let us know how it goes!

There might be a few charities around you which do coffee meetups, organised walks, gardening together, etc. I heard u3a is good for trying or learning random different things. You could even go for long weekends to different parts of the UK or Europe to see lots of new places. You could do charity work.

About to make a 6h drive to the lake district for the week with a friend, should be fun! I have my rain coat lol.

[–] Mr_Blott 6 points 1 year ago

The Lake District is like Skye though, it can be pissing down and it's still gorgeous

Back to work after 3 months off with a variety of health problems but most notably a slipped disc that is crushing my spinal cord. Surgery in 3 weeks but if I don't go back today I get a pay cut so back I go! Could be worse, working from home at least

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I hope its an alright easing in back to work. Annoying that you have to get back to it before surgery though!

Morning everyone. Reddit refugee here and what better way to make my first post of Lemmy than here!

I'm using wefwef and it kind of feels like a home from home already.

Looking forward to helping this place a great community

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Three cheers for wefwef! 🎉

It's a suitable stand-in for me until Boost for Lemmy is available. Boost, for me was reddit.

Greetings 👋

Just peeked a look at the forecast myself: rain for two weeks.

I'm in the general area of Manchester, so I shouldn't be surprised, but it's July for cryin' out loud. Where'd my summer go.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I live in Liverpool but I'm down south at my mum's, and it's not much better here. Feels chilly in the mornings. I was down on the South coast at the weekend and it was much better there, they really do get all the good weather compared to the rest of the country. It's just a shame it's full of boring people.

After our mini heat wave I think we're going to start getting a bit Autumnal already haha.

Hope the heat stays, got a week in Blackpool coming up in August and I don't fancy it being drizzly haha

[–] Lateralking 1 points 1 year ago

I dig it, i fucking love rain

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I thought we were about to be smashed in the face by a July heatwave?

Back to work after having a week off. Kind of dreading it as my calendar is already packed

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I just came back from a whole month away, as the defacto manager in all but job title and pay grade. What a mess.

All I can say is:

how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time

I'm into my second week back and finally caught up. You'll get through it!

I appreciate the lemmings

New client day! So I'm off to their office to pick up a laptop, password, ID, time sheets, etc.

Commuting is, thankfully, a one-time thing.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Normal week for me. Nothing special, got some work experience kids in this afternoon so will see how that goes.

Luckily it's quite sunny here so can keep justifying shorts to the office!

[–] sideone 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

got some work experience kids in this afternoon

Long weights, buckets of steam and left handed hammers on the cards?

[–] Mr_Blott 4 points 1 year ago

Used to work in a hardware shop and a spotty kid in overalls came in and asked for a packet of halogen for headlight bulbs

I went into the back and cut off one of those giant bubbles you get for packaging

Kid looked chuffed to bits when I said there was no charge

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I work in a very office based environment, so I'd actually love to give that a try to see if they'd click!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

@sideone
Don't forget the tartan paint.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I think I’m going to need a double espresso or two

[–] Stealth_Bummer 4 points 1 year ago

I'm currently packing for a trip to Montreal tomorrow.

[–] Finnbot 4 points 1 year ago

Happy Monday folks!

Got up today and could not be arsed so stuck in 3 days holiday. I just can’t stop thinking about the new Dungeon Crawler Carl book that’s getting delivered today. Can’t fucking wait!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Went to a stag on Saturday that involved go-karting my arms are made of rocks today

[–] TeaHands 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This "morning chat" post went up 5 hours ago. I finally dragged myself out of bed half an hour ago. This says it all about how my week has started off.

On the bright side, accidentally getting eleven hours straight sleep has done wonders for my energy levels. Feeling ready to punch the rest of the day right in the face!

[–] sideone 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I can't remember the last time I slept eleven hours in a row, you must feel amazing. I actually waited an hour before posting this thread as I was too busy trying to get child #2 to sleep at just after 5am (and watching Agents of Shield)

[–] TeaHands 1 points 1 year ago

Definitely wasn't on purpose but I guess it was needed! Of course, the whole "no kids" thing definitely helps in that situation. RIP to your chances of any real rest at all for basically ever.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nerding out and testing my own private Lemmy instance. First impressions: quite a lot of effort, no huge benefits as yet.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Seems to be working ok but need more time to federate properly. Will try some more tomorrow!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Finally got some Wimbledon tickets after years of trying. So looks like rain on Wednesday for our day, and we have an outside court not a fancy roofed one. Oh well, will see how much of a refund we get if it rains too much to stop play. Should still be a good day out though regardless.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Not as much rain as I'd hoped here. Had quite a gentle return to work so far and managed to do a lot of laundry!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Off to a festival this week so it's the one time I'd rather it not bloody rain!

[–] sideone 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dropped the car off for an oil change (when did they get so expensive?) and getting a nice 15 minute walk from the garage to work. A bit chilly though, which was unexpected.

My wrist continues to be painful after a week so going to try to get to the minor injuries unit tonight.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hope it's nothing bad! If it ends up just being a mild sprain or something that needs rest, get yourself one of those cheap wrist splint things with the metal in them. Made a huge difference when I had a similar thing.

[–] sideone 2 points 1 year ago

Ah yeah, good idea!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Today I'm spagbolling while listen to Iron Maiden.
Not much federating with Lemmy on kbin, I can only see 4 comments on this thread. The mysteries of the Fediverse!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It's all being a bit weird today. Posting this from my own instance but not much has been synced yet. Lemmy.world seems to be groaning under the pressure of loads of new users.
