Rest in Peace Aaron.

I think Aaron would have given Steve the finger and walked too.

A true martyr.

[–] dylcarinc 19 points 1 year ago

Gone far too soon. What happened to him was an absolute tragedy.

it is so sad how harshly the world treated him

we need to set an instance/community in his name that documents all the greed aspects of internet companies and the sustainable and user friendly alternatives to fight those: like firefox is to Chrome, invidious, odysee, the fediverse, vpns, alternatives to isps (?) , i2p and p2p, Libgen, Anna's archive ...

Aaron Swartz and Skyrim, both awesome.

I’ve never played it yet, and I have a Quest 2. Should I give it a go on VR? How long does it take to beat?

[–] bizzle 2 points 1 year ago

It's definitely a classic and worth it to pick up. It's an open world game but the main quest averages in the 20s.

VR with mods is an experience that I would recommend anyone living and breathing

Rest in peace, my dear brother Aaron. You will never be forgotten.

As a very out of touch dude. Who is this again? I recognize that face and I recall being genuinely sad about his death but that's it

Founder of Reddit and one of the developers of the RSS standard.

Huge Free speach advocate and very against intellectual "property". He wanted knowledge to be free and accessible for everyone and killed himself after he was accused of things that could've brought him to prison for a very long time. He probably did these things which are kinda similar to things Sci-Hub does nowadays.

You got some good answers already but I just wanted to add...

The DOJ overcharged the hell out of him. Non violent, first time offender looking at decades? They were putting the screws on him in the hopes he'd plea, again to an unreasonable amount of time. Feels unethical to me.

The internet's own boy.

I've fought admins tougher than you

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

The world needs him more than ever today. RIP 😢

[–] the_kung_fu_emu 6 points 1 year ago

He wouldn't have been much younger than I am now, and it pains me that he wasn't around, if not to steer the ship he built in a different direction, then at least have a front row seat to watching it run aground. I do have hopes that he has a good seat in the skybox. I think he would have liked it here, it seems the kind of collaboration he would have enjoyed.

I see him around here in Lemmy with us.

Honestly fuck Steve or Skete or Spez or whatever his fucking name is (I know it’s Steve, just venting), the guys’s a tool. What baffles me is how users of deceased third party apps (RIP Apollo) can continue using the site and supporting it after it’s been publicly made what a liar he is.
