I watched Hereditary for the first time this week and I think I was most impressed with the sound design. Many of the most chilling moments are accompanied by really subtle audio. The movie is great in general, but the perfectly tuned score really helps amplify the horror.

I watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. It wasn't amazing, but it was pretty funny.
I watched The Boogeyman a couple days ago, it was well shot but I think ultimately fell short of having a compelling story or antagonist. The themes and execution were very similar to The Babadook but were much more on the nose and lacked the writing or characters you'd get in a Flanagan adaptation
A year has passed again, and it was time for the rewatch of Happy Death Day 1 and 2. Jessica Rothe is amazing, and I love how they keep the balance between slasher, sci-fi and comedy. Feel good movies, wholesome and fun!
I know it's out of weekly scope, but whatever. The other night I watched 65. Basically it's a movie where a dude lands on an 'earth' 65 million years ago, dinosaurs and stuff like that and needs to get off before a global catastrophe occurs. Found it well directed with enough ups and downs to keep it watchavle.. Stars Adam Driver.
65 felt a bit disappointing from a directing and screenplay standpoint but that part of my brain that loves schlocky action and sci-fi flicks thoroughly had a good time.
My annual Cloud Atlas viewing came up yesterday. Such a creative and profound movie. It has it's issues, I wont act like they don't exist, but if you engage with the movie at the level its asking you to there is so much to dissect and think about. It's a perfect addition to the Wachowski's filmography of heady metaphysical allegories.
This has been on my watchlist forever and I keep putting it off. I don't even know why, I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it a lot. I'll move it up the priority list, lol.
You won’t regret it - just make sure you’re in the mood for something thought provoking!
Saw Black Adam this week, and it was actually pretty decent. Definitely not as bad as I was expecting. I’d put it mid tier for DC movies: not nearly as good as The Suicide Squad or Shazam, but not nearly as bad as Suicide Squad.
Just watched this independent film "I like movies". As a kid growing up in 90's making silly home videos and going to film school, I related a lot to it.
