For all scientists in the lemmyverse, I want you to know there is a lemmy instance dedicated to nature and science: mander.xyz.

TIL.

I wish there was an easy way to list all the communities on an instance and then pick which ones you'd like to subscribe to

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)
  1. Go to https://lemmyverse.net
  2. Click the "communities" tab up top.
  3. Click the "Instances" filter button
  4. Click "Hide All" then search for the instance you want and enable that one.
  5. Click the house icon at the top of the page and enter your home instance

Now you see a list of all communities on that (or multiple) instances, and clicking on them takes you right to that community on your own instance. It's the best way I've found.

Oh sweet. Thanks!

I can't find this instance on WefWef am I doing something wrong.

I don't use wefwef.app, but I'm assuming the issue is to do with mander.xyz being an instance (like lemmy.world or sh.itjust.works).

The point being that any communities from mander.xyz will still show up if you search for them on wefwef.app

For example, I searched wefwef for the communities labeled mycology and it brought up the correct community from mander.xyz:

https://wefwef.app/search/lemmy.world/c/[email protected]

Edit: in essence it search works for searching for a community, but not an instance as a whole; I couldn't just search wefwef.app for mander.xyz and see all of its communities listed, but I can search for a community from it and it will come up

Just to test a theory: https://wefwef.app/posts/mander.xyz/local

This will show you the posts from mander.xyz as if you're on that instance

Though I think these will leave not signed into your lemmy.world account, so I guess find the communities you like the look of and search it from your normal wefwef.app instance

Yeah. Right now I just go to Mander.xyz in my web browser and browse its communities.

I then use Memmy to search for the community and subscribe.

It would be great to search for the instance in the app and see a community listing!

Yup my dumbass thought the instance name was the name of the community. Much appreciated for the clarification.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Same here. Entirely possible I’m being a noob though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah me too, can’t find it using wefwef

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

So wefwef.app only lists the biggest instances, and doesn't allow you to browse instances with logging in to that instance... Yet.

I suspect the dev will add functionality so browse other instances without logging in soon.

But if you would like to browse other instances, then create an account for that instance and then on wefwef you'll be able to login using it.

Thanks! Lemmy + scientists seems like a perfect fit.

Wow, can I just add all the communities from mander.xyz and then filter out what I don't want? I like the content but I'm starting to try to consolidate my testing IDs into one instance. It's a feature that I have to purposely go add other communities on other instances and the only "defaults" I get are the ones on my local instance?

I wonder if there is a way to have a feed that is startrek.website + mander.xyz but exclude other non-sciencey discourse from ala .world or .ml. "All" right now does not options to filter those out...

[–] wit 2 points 1 year ago

You have to subscribe to the communities you want and then do "Subscribed" instead of "Local" or "All". I don't know of an easy way to mass subscribe though. The easier way is to click in "Communities" and search/subscribe those you want. You can search for communities in all instances there.

Jerboa seems to be wonky atm, but when it does work, is there a way to add it to my communities? Though when I click that now, I can't see all the ones I've subbed to anymore

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Nice info, thx..
