When do we recognise that they're an existential threat and respond accordingly?

When political and media influences aren't bought and sold, eroding our democracy to the point that only a thin veneer remains, and our cognitive biases dismiss the fact that we're the frog that's boiling.

I'm seeing increased reason for hope, but things are getting worse faster than people are starting to care. It's hard for me not to have a doomer response to the situation.
