After 13 years on Reddit, mostly consumed through RIF and old.reddit, this is now my "frontpage of the internet".
Reddit Was Fun
Memorial to "rif is fun for Reddit" Android app, aka "reddit is fun", shut down after June 30, 2023
made an account here recently just to see what was up. I didn't mind reddit (albeit it was very clunky and slow, just not an ideal website for me, miss forums a lot) but lemmy seems like the best compromise. Can't wait to see where it goes from here
Rip rif. Bring on the new frontier.
I made a reddit account 7 years ago and used rif most of that time. It was the only thing keeping me on reddit because I was never satisfied with the official app. With rif gone, reddit will only be used as a means of finding answers to questions I search Google with. I hope that I won't have to depend on reddit for long in that regard either.
That's like the biggest net negative - how often do you Google your question with "Reddit" tagged in there to find real people answering your question?
Biggest bummer is seeing people deleting their post history. Like, I get it, but also screwing with troubleshooting for years to come until Reddit slips into obscurity.
Someone is building a search engine for Lemmy. So if Lemmy ever somehow manages to get as popular as reddit, that search engine will be awesome.
I knew it was coming a month in advance, yet somehow I was still shocked when it stopped working.
The end of an era, to be sure.
We need a Lemmy is Fun!
Yeah I followed the link too. Didn't know about lemmy before RIF closed
Welcome! I've been here for a couple weeks and it's been pretty cool. Feels a lot more like the old Internet. People seem friendlier too.
RIF is still working for me, at least for now. Dreading the moment when it stops. RIF has legit been a part of my life for like 3 years.
To the end of reddit and fuck Spez! (10yr former redditor)
12 Year Old Reddit account gone. Deleted all of my posts and comments.
Happy to be here!
Reddit is Fun is still working for me. I can browse subreddits but I can't post or login.
Didn't feel like waiting for the end, been here a few weeks now.
Just created a profile, I was using rif last night when suddenly I got the api error code, really sad to see it go.
I really hope lemmy replaces reddit, plenty of us here but we need more growth.
Liking it so far.
Is this and RIF style app for here?
https://wefwef.app (works best if you open it in Chrome and install it as a progressive web app), it's opensource and has an official community here: [email protected]
But it resembles more Apollo than RIF.
Jerboa is very RiF like. Unfortunately if you use Lemmy.world it won't work until that instance updates. Currently on Connect for lemmy and it is ok.
I am using liftoff. I like the look and feel a lot. I used Jerboa at first but have switched to Liftoff.
Thanks for having us
