You can filter for games that show PS buttons instead of Xbox

Nice I guess but it really doesn’t need an article and as someone who uses a PS controller I doubt I will ever use this

Doesn’t matter at all to me, I know X means A and A means X

Played both consoles for years it’s all muscle memory now

The only time it has ever fucked with me was when playing Final Fantasy X on the PC. One of the characters has big attacks that require a series of button inputs with a short timer. First few times I tried, I kept failing because the buttons shown were all wrong.

Under normal circumstances, it’s fine. I’m not thinking about which button is X, I’m thinking about which button is attack. But when you only have a few seconds to look at, translate, and perfectly input an entire string, (the string resets if you fuck up,) it suddenly becomes much more important to have the right button icons. I ended up installing a mod just so I could change the button prompts.

Sounds like a skill issue bro, git gud

Seriously tho, can see the issue here, I think it’s happened to me in the past

It only screws with me when swapping between Switch and PC, since they have the same letters (and because Nintendo games always have fucking weird button layouts) 🤷‍♂️ the PS shapes are fine

Nintendo's layout still trips me up. I have to switch my brain mode.

Gotta admit this happens to me when playing yuzu on my deck, never been a Nintendo guy though

Lucky you, when I see X I always hit Square

I noticed this with an older Steam update. My PS input prompts changed to Xbox, but I'm so familiar with both that I didn't notice for days.

I just see up down left right at this point. My thumb knows what's up

At least Xbox and PS controllers share a nearly identical input map. It's not like most people are trying to play Dark Souls with a N64 or NES controller and struggling to read input directions.

But I guess to caveat myself, the age of jumping different controller layouts is largely passed. Can't remember the last time I went from GameCube to PS to something different.

I go from switch to PC(Xbox gamepad) a lot. Nintendos insistence on requiring the right face button to be Accept is torture. I'm cool with every other controller change, but that still gets me.

Is this why it's been popping up with a new message telling me my DS controller isn't compatible but Steam will handle it anyway? Steam itself has also been crashing since the last update. I haven't seen Steam crash since about 2004. :/

Also, side thought: It would be rad as fuck if a shader could just replace the prompts tho. For games that don't yet have it built in (which is most). I have been fooled too many times by games telling me to press X when using a colorless button image. It really means what would be square for the PS controller, but the lack of it being blue always tricks me 🤣

Agreed with that last part. On the rare occasions I go with a controller over kb&m, step one is almost always checking Nexus to see if there's a mod for PS prompts. You get used to it pretty quickly either way, but it'd still be nice.

I noticed this yesterday when I had a mate over and Hitman was showing the PS prompts, which it didn't used to I assume because it was spoofing an xbox controller before now or something. Pretty cool I guess. The only thing I'm playing with a controller these days is FF8, which I can't get to register at all without remapping the buttons as keyboard inputs 🤷‍♀️
