Neat pictures but there’s some weird filtering going on that make them look like an oil painting or something.
Superbowl
For owls that are superb.
Yeah... I think there is too much correction going on with pushing the phone's zoom to the limit and then cropping it down. The Pixel tries to work its magic, but it makes some compromises. Probably a fair bit of user error involved too 😅
Just FYI, zooming past the “optical zoom” point is literally just cropping the photo. You’re generally better off taking the photo at the max optical zoom, and cropping it yourself after, also gives you the opportunity to adjust the crop in case you decide you wanted more left in the photo.
All of the new phones use neural-net based compression algorithms because they're fast and they generate dinky little files. The problem is that they compromise too much on anything it wasn't trained for and you get that weird oil painting effect.
I was going to ask if you were zoomed way in. My Galaxy S22 has a great zoom, but sometimes the "fixes" it does to make the zoomed pictures look nice are very noticeable.
Overall they look great though, even at 30x
Here's some pics from the group's Facebook.
I love them all and they are all perfect despite their shortcomings.
That's what I like to hear!
Thanks for posting these! Genuinely cool to see
Glad you liked them!
It was a fun program, mainly aimed at the little kids, but I did still learn some things, plus it was free.
Next weekend I'm going to a banding event. I'll see if I can get anything interesting to report on that too.
